The Best Wood Fill / Wood Filler - What I Use and Why

When it comes to wood fill, for the most part I use either saw dust and wood glue, saw dust and epoxy, wax fill stick, or joint compound for painted projects.

Jon - Helpful video.
The time required to mix the sawdust and glue subtracts from the working time of the glue, When using an epoxy that has a long working time, that's not a problem, but with a short working-time epoxy, the glue could start to set up before the sawdust is fully integrated. A trick is to mix the sawdust with the resin component alone, before adding the hardener - the clock doesn't start on the working time until you add the hardener, so that approach allows more time to thoroughly mix the sawdust and resin.

The joint compound tip was great. It's one of those "Why didn't I think of that" deals. Thanks Jon.

Poly vynil acetate (wood glue) + iron (tools, nails, steel wool) react to create iron acetate. Iron acetate is a component of jet black ink or stain.

I appreciate your tips. Thank you. Do you have a video that shows how you use these products? Especially the sawdust and charcoal. How and for what purposes do you use the apoxy? What types of projects do you use the 2nd type of epoxy? Thanks..

Is it possible to create a permanent gap filling filler with great strength with wood "saw" dust and Titebond III?

Thanks for the video. I used sawdust from an orbital sander with wood glue on a big gouge taken by the slip of a router on a white oak piece, but the dried result is much darker. I used a strip of the white oak to mix it, and mixed it on a piece of ply, so no metal anywhere. Any tips to get it lighter again? It was fine when it was wet but dried much darker. Maybe I need to sand some back again and mix it with epoxy and fill a top layer to match instead?

Very useful tips, straight to the point and engaging. With other videos they drag on... zzzz.... but you deliver it in a way that makes you want to keep watching and not miss a single thing. Great job. Another sub.

Great tips Jon.
For those projects that have to be done NOW, I like using auto body filler.
