Professor Postal | WoWp: How to Win

I was looking for an XP-54 to fight. But the lessons can be learned no matter the then enemy. You must win the battle within you mind before you can win the battle versus your enemy!

That was a really positive and encouraging video. Postal has a very soothing voice. I like the gentle empathetic approach with nuggets of subtle logic. Great video.

Another component of map awareness is knowing where the bots tend to go. There's a few maps where the bombers go places I wouldn't expect. The Scorching Sands with the 2 MB, the bot bombers ALWAYS go for the farther MB. One the higher tier map (one of the Albion maps?) with the 2 CC on one side and 2 MP on the other, the bot bombers ALWAYS go for the CC (this actually makes sense, and controlling both CCs can facilitate a win). That of course only comes with time.

Knowing what sectors are key to take and hold is also important.

So many factors go into a battle and the decisions to make, it's hard to encapsulate it all in a short video. You could probably do a series of videos and dub them the Master's Class or something :) This is a good start though.

Mindset is often 90% of what we do (and how well we do it). I lost a battle against a B-32 (I forget what I was flying, but I think it was a GA so probably the IL-8 or 10 at the time), because I saw B-32 on red (specialized, no less), and thought "Oh man, I'm probably screwed"...so I made a rather rash decision to try and grab the central AB so my bombers could respawn there. I spent most of the battle over the central AB (took so long ground targets were respawning). In the end I lost, and post game I saw that the B-32 with the human had barely any impiact on the game. Had I done what I would normally do (go for the CC near me and waddle across the map) chances are I would have beat the B-32.

Long story short, unless you're familiar with the pilots in the skies around you, don't assume that just because they're in a powerful plane or they have specialist that they're going to be dangeous. Don't underestimate them either, but check their progress during the battle and you'll most likely get a good feel for them (or at least their threat level in that game).

Such EXCELLENT advice. I am not that great and do get hung up sometimes on the special plane on Red. (B-29 especially). Better to focus on what you can do and watch for those opportunities. Had a memorable game few days ago where it was 2 v 2 humans and I was in a tier 9 GA on a central airbase map with nothing but garrisons and maybe a tier 10 multirole on my team. Other team had 2 tier 10 specialized fighters in a GROUP that literally could have farmed any sector they wanted and owned the map in short order. Our mostly bot team went about farming the surrounding sectors and won. The Humies owned that airbase though and farmed their personal points the whole way to their loss. I choose to remember these more than you know, the bone head ones of which their are many.

The world loves the sport of soccer so much cause a lesser team can beat a better team with that one good goal. Well in WOWP, you can win with one or two good BOTS on your team even when you don't score your candy cane 8k points. Especially if you try to do the right things and not get psyched out.

10:50 I've only stumbled into a couple of games with you (against you and Lionitus I think) a very long time ago and haven't really had a chance to test my aviation skills against yours. One thing I always notice in your videos is that you're paying so much more attention to the map and this strategic plan to win the match, while I'm usually just fighting to survive.

I'm focused on how to fight a Rook against a Bishop "right now" while you're thinking on more of an end game level.

I'm with you, Postal - I never quit a battle, and I've had more than one battle turn out a win after a rough start, and man, is that SATISYFING! I know it's a hotly debated topic, with some players preferring to not "waste their time" on a battle they can't win, but then they miss out on the joys of an impressive win against overwhelming odds.

Even the best pilots can lose. I've been on teams that have beat many (not often, it's usually a loss). I even won a 1v1 against a good pilot that I hold in high regard and he was in the P-61. I'm surprised I won, TBH, but I'll take the W. And I still have a ton of respect for the other pilot and his skills.

Who knows - someday I might even beat you (yeah, that ain't happening - seeing you on red just tells me I'm going to get a thwacking LOL).

But yeah, once I hit battle I'm in it till the end (unless I get a disconnect, and I always try and get back in as quick as I can).

Main thing of every game to win, players need to know what to do base on the capabilities of the planes and dont be a solo hero. Be a team players and keep and eye on the map to see where opposite team is more congregated.

Wow, this is an old post. Anyway, my first thought on seeing the after battle report was "I wonder how many of the red team now think the Ki-102 is OP?" That's a serious comment, btw.
I've played since 2012, and have seen the 'this or that is OP and is gonna end the game as we know it" so many times I have lost count. Not that you made that statement.
I looked, and found that the 54 is among the top 5 planes I have played the most since 2.0. The other 4 in the top 5 are all GA. So, I think that I do at least have some idea what I'm talking about.
The Ki-102 is an easy counter for the 54, as are several other planes. They have stealth-nerfed the guns on the 54. It is made of glass, and frequently suffers from engine damage. When I see one in game, my only real concern is not getting in front of it if it's in the same sector. Otherwise it's sort of business as usual. Keep on capping. If it is in the same sector, attacking when it's killing something else is effective a large majority of the time. but, that goes for practically any red plane.
To sum up....several things.
Most of the guys who have it got it by busting butt on a sorta long and not particularly easy mission. They put in the time for it. I know I did. I think I used certs on one mission sub section I didn't feel like wasting my life on lol. I have from time to time heard the statement that a person feels dirty for playing the plane. I don't. I worked for it, its good, and for me that is the end of it. If that makes me an evil villain in the eyes of some, so be it. I don't get a plane because it is crappy.
Although its a good plane, it's not a certified carry plane. Can't count all the games I have had in mine where I have 2 name players on red, and "flapjackturd22" with 12 battles on my team. Seems to me bots have as much impact on game outcome. Sure, you can get points, but a win isn't a foregone conclusion by any means. I have had loads of games in the 54 like the one in your Ki-102 video above, but which were losses. And that's just life.
I remember when I started, I got my a*7 handed to me so many times I finally started asking people who knew, how to play. Quit when 2.0 dropped because I thought it sucked. Couldn't play it at first because I had no clue. Now I have a better clue, and it still sucks but not as much, and I don't get my rear handed to me as much as at the start. I enjoy your videos, and frequently pick up things I didn't know or hadn't thought of. I can't say I agree with your conclusions about the 54, but then that's just how things go sometimes. Either way, keep up the good work, you are an asset to the wowp community.

Thank you! So many members in the Flying Knights say the 54 isn't OP at all. I told the group it would be more fair as a tier 7 or to be nerfed a tiny bit but hardly anyone agreed. I just hate being pitted against 2 spec'd 54s.

Well said. What fun is a game if you only fly the 4-5 op aircraft in the game. I’m a lot like you in a sense that I love to play and try and master all kinds of aircraft in the game. So what if my win rate may suffer by it. It is just a video game after all. Have fun with it.

Case in point, how can 2 bombers out-cap 2 player specialized heavies, one of which (at least) was a Twin Mustang? I was in a battle in a Ju-287 and the other player on my team kept trash-talking to me saying I suck just because I wasn't capping fast enough. I try to explain that I have a 50 second reload on my bombs, but he just insults me even more. He was in an RB-17, BTW. I try to go for a cap and the enemy just caps in quick succession before I'm reloaded and I'm called names like moron, loser, d*psh*t, etc. Did I deserve every insult I got? Was it just a bad day? In any event, I don't like being gaslit.

MM lately has been totally fed up, ive been getting matches with 3 or 4 XP-54 and zero on my team. For me its an Auto go to Hangar, i refuse to be wargaming hp pinnata to a P2W plane.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on the xp 54. I drop any game with one in it, out of principle. I refuse to feed them XP. Whether they are on my team or the enemy team. I'm tired of looking up player stats and seeing 3000+ battles in the XP-54 and the next closest heavy fighter has been flown 300 times. Pilots should take a look at their stats...if your top most flown planes are the xp 54 and the 29c, your 90% win rate means NOTHING. You aren't a good pilot, you just fly overpowered aircraft. I've looked at your stats, and you've barely broken in your XP 54. This is why I respect your skills, because they are based on merit, not the fact that you happened to be playing when the event to earn an Uber plane took place. What shocks me is that even some pilots who I thought were good still abuse the XP and the 29c. I got a boot in the ass for expressing my opinion in clan chat...( your clan) Turned out several officers also abuse the XP and 29c and really really don"t like the subject being brought up.

By the way, your sound levels on the last 4-5 videos has been very low...might want to check your mic settings.

The XP-54 greatly damages the game (...and the XP-55 to a lesser extend). I prefer flying tiers IV and below just to avoid the frustration of loosing to the team with the XP-54 - because statistically, this is what happens 99% of the time.., and if the XP-54 is on your team, you end up winning with just a couple of thousand personal points picking up the bread crumps left behind. If I ever quit the game it will be because of the "genius" game designer who thought that introducing an unbeatable aircraft for lazy gamer pilots was a good idea...🤨
