The FDA also allows lead in food as long as it's considered a safe amount, so take that as you will

There's a lot of fearmongering when it comes to parabens and until the research is stronger I'm fine with them.

Paraben is actually the safest preservative

I have sensitive skin and they immediately trigger my eczema. Same for sulfates

I’m not a chemistry nerd or anything, I’ll leave it to a Chemistry PHD person who actually knows there stuff (iykyk) to share their knowledge

What’s important to know is that the dose makes the poison. Stuff like Lead is allowed in products at a certain level because it may be unavoidable as well as will have near 0 effect on the body at those levels. The safe level on the regulations are also usually 1/100 of the safe level if my source is correct. I mean don’t cherry pits have like arsenic? I wonder why we can still eat cherries haha.

Needless to say, parabens should be fine 👍

I work for a store that sells hand soaps and they changed the formula for certain soaps one with and one with out parabens and the new one without it got complaints, that it irritates their skin I thought that was interesting cause it was supposed to be better

Paraben is one of the most researched chemical when it comes to skincare and makeup. It’s safe. It’s just a preservative.

I've noticed when using shampoos with parabens vs without in my hair, my hair is a lot softer without needing to use conditioner when I use a shampoo that doesn't have parabens.

(I will note, however, that the shampoo I switched to also doesn't have sulfates, which may be skewing the results.)

I dont love the logic that "the fda isnt trustworthy and they say its fine so maybe be suspect regardless of how limited the evidence is saying this thing is harmful"

The only problem I have with parabens is the fact that I’m allergic to them

Yeah - if youre not sure if something has parabens, even if you cant remember the specific chemical names its easy-ish to tell since all of them end with the word 'paraben'. Which once i knew that i became so happy since it makes avoiding them easier (im allergic to them so regardless of if they have a negative effect on overall health, i'd still be avoiding them)

If you're really trying to avoid parabens, you should know they naturally occur in some fruits, like blueberries. Personally, I don't see the issue. The concerns about parabens mainly come from studies on rodents, where extremely high doses were used. First, humans are not rats, so our bodies process substances differently. Second, there are no conclusive, peer-reviewed studies from reputable journals that show significant harm to human health from normal exposure to parabens. Lastly, it's important to remember that everything can be toxic—it's not the chemical itself, but the dose that matters.

Again, parabens are the safest preservative on the market. Clean beauty swept the market and you know what happened? They also had to use preservatives except the ones they use aren't hypoallergenic in the very high amounts they have to be used compared to parabens which have to be used in incredibly small amounts.

If you use heavy foundation or don’t give your skin a break to breathe, it can mess with your skin (hormonally, don’t know about cancer). If you don’t wear makeup very often or only do light coverage, it shouldn’t matter 😁
