Aug.01 -- The U.A.E.’s plan to scale back its role in Yemen is being seen as a clear sign that the nation is reevaluating its entanglement in Middle East conflicts. The change in direction comes against the backdrop of the U.S.-Iranian standoff which threatens to tip the Persian Gulf into a regional war. UAE military intelligence are probably aware that in the event of an outbreak of war the Iranians are planning to plaster the major city centres of the UAE with ballistic missile attacks. Such attacks could come at relatively short notice and are difficult to defend against. The Iranians are threatening that two or three days of these attacks could level the main cities of the UAE to the ground. As far as is publicly known the US has done little to strengthen the ABM defences on the Arabian peninsula, though US naval units carry AEGIS ABM systems which are probably the best in the world, it is not clear if they could cope with the scale of attack.
