Mr. Self Destruct - piano cover/improv // Nine Inch Nails

I was improvising after analyzing Mr. Self Destruct and came up with a surprisingly convincing cover. What do you think? Does it work on piano or does it need a demented, distorted Trent whispering to you over a bed of chaotic guitars and machines to stand on its own?
On Monday March 8 2021 I'm publishing a deep-dive and musical analysis of Mr. Self Destruct on the 27th anniversary of The Downward Spiral's release. Maybe I'll see you there!

Amazing how one song can be both heavy and delicate at the same time.

I. Fucking. LOVE. This. Cover.

The transition from the main melody into the breakdown suffers slightly because of the decreased juxtaposition, but it plays like gangbusters on the other end when you return to the hook. Great, soulful and exhilarating work.

It’s so easy to see how Trent & Atticus does so many soundtracks together. Your work of this NIN song sounds like it could be the soundtrack in a movie. You should do a video about Bird Box.

As a lifelong NIN fan and an even bigger defender of The Fragile; The Becoming is my favorite song. I’d really love an analysis of it.

Find myself whispering “I am an exit” during the interlude

I can hear Something I Can Never Have in this, Trent motifs himself all the time!

I'm ... really liking these jams! And an original CD case too! Mine is lost to time, unfortunately. I love the convenience of this brave, new digital world but I miss my stacks of poorly organized CD cases and the deliberate, conscious choice required when picking out something to play. Too easy now to just hit "random play all".

When I first discovered Nine Inch Nails, I would listen to the entire discography on a constant Loop, getting immersed in the chaotic energy and The Melodies coupled with the amazing lyrics that just resonated heavily with me as a teenager and especially going into my twenties. Here I am now in my mid-thirties and the music still captures me, the lyrics still resonate with me, arguably even more so but at the same time you doing this reminds me of the more melodic aspects of their current discography, showing that there's still a bite no matter how layered or stripped down the melody is and it shows how great music stays with us throughout time and even when it's tone changes, can still cut to the core.

Fantastic work and hope to catch another amazing performance again soon. Much love from South Texas.

I see where this can draw a parallel with Mr Self Destruct, but I also feel that the main theme could be made into it its own work. Regardless of whether it's trying to be a cover or if you make it something else, this is some badass music. 👍
