Love it! Clapton's guitar strap pops off and he says "Rob" and without missing a beat Robbie slides right in. That's the product of years playing live on the road. A magnificent, if accidental, moment in R&R history!

That moment where Robbie takes it on like it's nothing. Fucking brilliant

Bless Robbie's soul. If Eric impressed everyone with his lead here, Robbie kept it alive and moving with his beautiful rhythm and played them beautiful solos. Thank you, Bob! Thank you for everything!

It never fails that every time Clapton shares the stage with another phenomenal guitar player he always rises to the top.

Levon says it all by his reaction to Clapton at the end of this Great performance. Never again will we witness pure talent like this and what was done on that stage on that night.

I remember the first time I saw this, all I could think watching Clapton's opening solo, was "that strap's gonna fall off." Then when it did and Robbie jumps right in, totally off the cuff, that's why I love The Band. Well, that's obviously not the only reason, but it's a totally legit reason right there. Nobody rocks like them.

I love how at 2:22, Danko smiles at his bandmate's performance then shortly you see Levon smilin' and groovin . I like seeing moments when bandmates like what their other bandmates are doing and how good the music sounds.

Greatest save in Rock and Roll history where Robbie absolutely nails it. This is one of the best concerts ever. So glad it was caught on film.

Saw Clapton live on SNL many years ago. This man exudes class with a capital C. Even jammed with the band after the show ended, something few, if any, musical guests do.

Robbie basically called Eric out in guitar language. You can see this in Eric's "So we're going there?" smile he gives Robbie during Robbie's solo. Then Eric dishes out the knockout punch. The crunch on that Fender.

at 13 seconds you can see Clapton's guitar strap is on backwards. It falls off later and Robbie catches the lead like a pro

Let's not forget cudos to the late, great Levon Helm on drums!! R.I.P. Loretta Lynn's Daddy in "Coal Miner's Daughter" and fantastic drummer/vocalist in The Band.

2:25. You can see the pride in Rick's eyes as his boy Robbie stands toe to toe with the best in the world.

The BEST!  The interplay between Robbie & Eric is classic!  And Robbie slipped in perfectly when Eric lost hold of his guitar strap.  He even wrote about this incident in his biography.  I remember watching "The Live Waltz" when it came out in the movie theatre many moons ago..Scorsese did a great job of directing!  The quintessential music documentary...Still viable for the younger generation!  This was music at it's best!
