I’ve watch RT news on YouTube before and they’re a great news media. They talk about things the U.S. media would never talk about. If you want to talk about propaganda, nobody comes close to US medias, they get the gold star.

Its sad what RT became. When it first came out, it actually did some good reporting. It seemed like the people who ran it actually wanted to make it into a Russian equivalent of BBC. Instead it just turned into cheap propaganda.

*The impact of sanctions on the Russian economy*

In August, the statistics service estimated Russia's GDP growth for the first half of 2024 at 4.6% year-on-year.

According to the statistics service, the greatest impact on GDP growth was due to the increase in added value in a number of industries:

- Manufacturing (+8.1%). Growth was recorded in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+18.4%), as well as other vehicles and equipment (+23.8%), the production of optical and electronic products and computers (+33.1%), finished metal products (+42.7%) and food products (+5.7%).

- According to the department's estimates, the wholesale and retail trade industries grew by 8%. Thus, wholesale turnover grew by 8.3%, and retail turnover by 7.3%. The growth was associated with an increase in demand for consumer goods, equipment and machinery.

- The construction industry grew by 5.6% due to the implementation of large investment projects and an increase in the volume of work.

- The hotel and restaurant business showed growth of 5.5% amid increased demand in the catering market (+5.4%).

Rosstat also identified the following industries as having an impact on the GDP dynamics:

Information and communications — +19.2%.
Finance and insurance — +16.4%.
Provision of electricity, gas and steam; air conditioning — +2.5%.
Transportation and storage — +2%.
Water supply and sanitation, waste collection and disposal, pollution elimination — +1.1%.

*The impact of sanctions on the EU economy*

In Germany, the manufacturing industry peaked in 2018. Since then, it has shrunk by 9% (as of the end of 2023). Now the figure is lower than in 2007 and 2008, on the eve of the global financial crisis.

Expensive energy sources are destroying the EU industry. Dependence on fuel imports has not gone away, only now it is several times more expensive. Such harsh conclusions were voiced by the former head of the ECB Mario Draghi. The assessments of the influential economist differ greatly from the optimism of the regulator, which has been transmitted to European officials and businesses for more than two years.

In the report "EU Competitiveness: A Look to the Future", presented to the European Commission, the former head of the ECB outlined the current state of the economy and prospects for the next five years.

The energy market, despite the EC's statements about overcoming the crisis and successfully replacing Russian energy sources, is experiencing great difficulties, the economist stated.

"Companies continue to face high electricity prices, which are two to three times higher than in the United States, and gas prices are four to five times higher. This gap is primarily due to the lack of natural resources in Europe, but also our fundamental problems, " the document says.

Experts were not surprised: the EU economy, especially its locomotive Germany, had been based on affordable energy from Russia for many years. After abandoning them, a decline was only a matter of time.

As a result, the EU began to lag behind the US and China. You cannot be competitive if you overpay for energy four times, the former head of the ECB emphasizes. Europe was not ready for aggressive competition.

"We will not be able to lead in technology and be an independent player on the world stage. We will have to give up some, if not all, of our ambitions, " Draghi warns.

According to his estimates, the EU imports about 40% of critical raw materials and technologies. Of this, about 40% comes from a limited number of difficult-to-replace partners. Almost half - from countries with which there are no strategic ties. And in the medium term, nothing can be done about it.
