The first ever Van Gogh exhibition at the National Gallery in London suggests that he was not so much a tortured genius as an artist who planned his work meticulously and thought deeply about its execution and meaning.

Christie’s Chairman, Europe, Giovanna Bertazzoni talks to curators Cornelia Homburg and Christopher Riopelle about the inspiration for the exhibition, which is supported by Christie’s.⠀

Featuring more than 60 works, the exhibition is focused on the years that Vincent van Gogh spent in the south of France — in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence — between February 1888 and May 1890.

🗓️14 September 2024 – 19 January 2025

This is a once in a lifetime experience, never mind exhibition.

I traveled to LACMA in 1999 to see the van Gogh exhibit. "A kid in a candy shop" is how it made me feel. Vincent is truly one of a kind.

It takes your breath away, his work is magnificent, though provoking, I often wonder how an interview with the master would have evolved?

If only he could see that he had achieved, that he was praised, that he was loved so much… after his death.. this exhibition is an example of that.

Interesting facts about tattoos and aristocracy from the past Ive read. Your information has been more than helpful to me. Sometimes we cannot show artworks as they are due to community and respect.

I’ve seen three of his paintings at different galleries and they are so much more than photographs can reproduce. 🌻

2:45 those paintings of sunflowers were recently attacked by anti-oil activists when they splashed orange soup over them. I consider that to be domestic terrorism. I sincerely hope those fools get major prison terms.

Да красиво, но надо любить современных художников, поддерживать . А чего сейчас восторгаться, нет Ван Гога в живых, жил трудно, не доедал, если бы не брат вообще бы пропал. Чего сейчас восхищаться. Странные люди

Why do the curators not know that his name is not Van Go but Van Gogh! This is so ignorant! They should know the real name of the star of their exhibition.

I’ve always hated the American pronunciation “Van Go” 😅 it’s bugged me for years and years! It’s completely incorrect!
