I think this movie is actually quite underrated, like I liked this movie way more than MvM which I think is a similar movie in motifs and somewhat plot. The main character is genuine and realistic acting like an actual child would, and is played very well with lots of subtleties. The side characters are fun, but not overbearing and overused and have their own significant emotional and plot roles. Ron is actually a quite nuanced character and isn't too childishly wild, but wild in a way that adults can also enjoy. Also I was surprised when one of the inter-friend conflicts occured and it was Ron who put his foot down and left Barney because he was frustrated with the way he was acting. It really gave the character a lot of presence as an actual main character and not a sidekick or gimmick, letting him have control on a "two way street." Overall I thought it was a great movie for any audience, and had a lot of fun and it invoked many emotions watching it
