How to Watch Blue Planet 2 in 4K HLG HDR + Comparison vs SDR

We demonstrate how to watch Blue Planet 2 in 4K HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR through the BBC iPlayer app on LG's 2017 OLED TVs, and also in SDR (standard dynamic range) from the Sky Q UHD box.

In addition, we compare the HLG HDR presentation vs the SDR version, covering specular highlight detailing, gradation and colour rendition.

This also playbacks beautifully on the slightly older (2016) LG B6 model..4K HLG HDR this was my first time being able to test HLG and it looks just fantastic...HDR is made for programs like this.

Just watched all 7 episodes of Blue Planet II in UHD via the BBC iPlayer on my LG OLED C7 55inch & it was absolutely stunning picture quality. The Sky Q Box is not yet fully UHD so not worth having just yet so save your money!

now that the physical UHD blu ray disc is out, I wonder if someone with access to BBC iPlayer could do a comparison between HLG and HDR10 versions to see any difference between these formats.

My Panasonic 50CX802B is one the sets affected by the iPlayer problem:(. The built-in iPlayer isn’t starting up at all so I can’t watch it even though I watched the earlier HLG demo just fine. I hope it’s fixed soon so I don’t miss watching this.

Do you recommend this HLG over film maker mode on sdr blu rays? I've used it with cinema home or cinema mode and kind of like it so far.

I guess your B7 too is suffering from a yellow tint in the left side, it clearly visible on the gray background when you start the app, im surprised you still did not cover that issue in your channel

Is there a trick to getting the b7/c7 to show app streaming content in 4K? Netflix, prime, google play, will only play in 480 for me unless I use my PS4 pro.

Thanks for this. Furious at Samsung's attitude and lack of support for 2016 TVs. And the BBC lying and saying we need a firmware upgrade when we don't (YouTube HLG-HDR works just fine).

When you say SDR you mean 1080p rec709 ?
