I have nurse clients that tell me "you never learn in school, you're real education comes on the floor". What an incredible story!

As a new RN tears were running down my face as I handed mom her baby. What an honor to witness a birth! I'm retired now, but I never lost that feeling of awe at the miracle of birth.

I lived in a country where this was practiced. I actually lived right next to the village clinic and never heard a peep. Except for one night where there was a lot of commotion. I remember mentioning it to the midwife later and she had all of these horrible things to say about the mother being (iirc) selfish and childish for being so loud and how she wouldn't listen to the nurses yelljng at her to be quiet. I hadn't considered that I never heard noise from childbirth due to the cultural requirement to be quiet and was frankly horrified at the midwife's reaction. My heart broke for the mom who was just having a natural response to a traumatic change in her body. Im all for celebrating different cultures and beliefs, but i also believe that we need more kindness and understanding of differences, and that midwife didn't show that to her patient. 🙁

My nurse delivered my 5th and she did an amazing job and LOVED it! It was the talk of the floor 😂 I am someone who goes from 6 to fully dilated in less than 10 minutes.. always have. I was at a different hospital than last birth and the doctor pretty much dismissed what I said and said he would be back in an hour or so. He left. The nurse said "this is your 5th I believe you" she got EVERYTHING ready and as she came back in with more floor covers I waved her over and baby was already head! She helped with the rest. Nurse was laughing and smiling and so happy to be there ❤ I would not have wanted it any other way!

Not all Mama's are screamers. No one ever believes me when I'm ready to push. My husband always had to go call for the delivery docs. I decided to just have baby #5 at home. No waiting for anyone, got to birth my way, no one confused or shocked at my labor, just got to have the baby. It was perfect.

I didn’t make any noise either. I just wanted to relax and give birth. It was a very calm experience for me.

Man, I could not imagine sitting there quietly. I gave birth all natural both times and although I didn't scream I definitely did a lot of cussing through the whole thing. The second time around I did discover music was my jam during birth and was able to control my pain better.

I've given birth 3 times and each time, the labor and delivery nurses were soooo sweet. Literally cannot think of one of them who was mean or rude. L&D nurses are angels and especially with my last, I had a nurse Allison who was just the best and literally held me while I got my epidural! My daughter's name begins with an A and has 7 letters and I feel like part of me wanted to honor her even though it isn't the same name (we didn't officially choose her name until the next day). I felt sad when I was home from the hospital because I missed the nurses!! I can't sing enough praises about my experiences with L&D nurses!!! I delivered at 3 different hospital systems (MidMichigan, Henry Ford, Trinity) and each time they were stellar! ❤

It’s possible it’s also didn’t hurt that bad. When I had my daughter naturally with no medications I didn’t cry out either. It only felt like the worst period cramps ever and it came in waves which are the “contractions” so I had times where it didn’t hurt as much and was like a relief. It also didn’t hurt that bad when she came out or after, just like a stabbing pinch and it was done.

I remember when I gave birth there was a girl there and it was her first time being involved in a labour, she did so great and I remember she came back later on to check on us and she was just so in love with my daughter, my delivery team was so incredible and I'm glad I could be there for that nurses first time she was incredible !

My last baby the nurse didn’t care for me AT ALL and I was telling her for at least a half br that something’s shifted and I’ve got BAD pain now. She just said “well do ya want an epidural?” And me thinking I was stuck like that, I said “I guess” and she picked up the phone and rang for the epi and slammed it back down and said “she’s busy she will get here when she can” all while I’m still in horrible pain.. she walks out (and hasn’t once checked me during this time of over a half hr at this point) and walks back in with a peanut ball and tells me I need to get the baby moving (only been there 2 hrs total)…RIGHT as she was walking towards me with the ball, the dr OBgyn comes back in THANK GOD and asks her “have you checked her yet?” ..nurse says no… OBGYN lifts up blankets to do exam and she says “all I see is water bag” (my water hadn’t broke yet so the bag was right at the “exit” ready to burst and crown baby. Nurse has enough nerve to say “well that explains the pain” 😡

My mom was part of this culture. She would not scream during our births and told us to do the same for our own births. I think it works.

I had an epidural and pitocin both pregnancies. Nurses check on me every few minutes but didnt have to really check me until i told them i felt pressure and needed to push. Was so peaceful with me not in pain and i was able to enjoy my babies being born.
