Check out this minty 1995 Fender Precision Active Special, otherwise known as the "Cowpoke" Precision. Only made by Fender for two years, these tend to be somewhat rare. It features a 34" scale, passive PJ pickups, and an active, stacked knob preamp with high and low frequency +/-. It's a little smaller and lighter than a typical Fender Precision, with a noticeably smaller headstock. Nut width is the standard Precision size, 1.62".
Playing demo starts at 3:20.

I have had a red one since new and it's my favorite of all the basses I have owned over the years. I also have a new {never used) wight one just in case something happens to the red one. I love the active electronics played through an Ampeg, best sound ever.

how does this bass compare to the fender jazz specials that came from Japan in the early 90s that also had the J and P pick-up config like this?

Fantastic demo dude! I've had one of these basses since the late 90s. Geat instrument and super playable.
One thing I did notice is that with the blend knob (at least on my example) you can never truly isolate the P and the J pickups and have them run solo.
Even wih the P set full, there is still some of the J blended in. I was wondering if this was the same on your example.
Thanks!
