6:00 How the hell are you going to appropriately apportion time to stuff you don't know how long it's gonna take? It's not like any menial task you can measure easily. You never know how long certain things are going to take to learn. This uncertainty gets compounded when you have several subjects in parallel, and creates a ton of stress in the end. Academics pretending learning is something you can streamline...

1. Prioritise tasks (Important to menial)
2. Schedule-allocate time per task (especially for mechanical repetitive work)
3. Be Flexible with Plan i.e. if creative juices flow, proceed overtime;.if not - do another task
4. Resist perfectionism

Thanks! Awesome advice.
[For me, for menial tasks with no benefits - (a) Say NO, (b) Suggest an alternative person +/- (c) Hire/pay someone else to do it.

As a perfectionist CS student and occasional impact drill user, I found this very helpful :) Thank you, Frank Stajano!

7:20 I see a connection here to Amdahl's Law, which I learned about from a previous video of yours. It is such a simple principle, though very applicable to make aspects of life, such as time management.

Really needed to hear this. I suspect I am undiagnosed neurodivergent ( ADHD & ASD) due to severe problems with time management, executive dysfunction/procrastination & perfectionism across ALL areas of my life. While I am awaiting medical assessment, I am looking for solid strategies for how to approach my studies. because at the moment, I am that little boat you described. I do perform well, but always feel burnt out from having to overcommit to projects at the last minute to the detriment of everything else (exercise, sleep, relationships etc) Thank you for this video. It drilled home the message that my current approach is unsustainable.

3:00 I would rather have responsilities and bills to pay than the ridiculous, artificial stress universities put on students, not to mention the fact that you're basically working for free. Those adult responsibilities and bills are only the negative counterparts to benefits workers have.

In high school it was so easy, if I would just put a quarter of my time into an subject, I would constantly get max grades, but now in college it feels like I am barely keeping up. It's an pretty steep curve from an easy high school to an STEM college like CS.

Impact Drill. Sounds obvious, but in reality a lot of people aren't aware of this, and even those who are don't allocate things as proportionally to importance as they should. A part of me wanted to follow your advice thoroughly and not write this comment, but I value your happiness too :)

Isn't it retarded how students are so overwhelmed when 99% of people working don't have that kind of problem? Academia truly lives in a bubble, in so many respects.
