What Cycling Power Meter do I Recommend?

I'm testing meters daily now (both existing and pre-release meters) and the Assioma have continued to be a great baseline to use to compare other meters. There's a few areas they can be improved, and I'm pushing Favero to address this in firmware.... but for a 'they just work' solution they're hard to beat.

Good point about better buying locally. I purchased my Assioma directly from Favero in Italy and had it shipped to the UK. This was back in 2019. A couple weeks in the readings started getting weird, every couple seconds drop to 0w. I contacted their customer service who diagnosed the pedals via the mobile app, and said they could not see anything wrong. I was left with the option of sending the pedals for diagnosing to their lab in Italy. That's 50 Euro, and they would pay the return shipping, but only if there was an issue and it was found to be their fault, not mine. Literally the same day I was about to go to the post office on, and ship the pedals they emailed me that they had found what was the problem and upgraded the firmware. All the back and forth via email took 8 weeks during which I had no working power meter. On a plus side, their customer service is very good - polite and do make an effort to help out.

+1 for Assioma. Haven’t had any issues. Initially I was worried about battery life and build in rechargeable battery, but I’ve had mine for a couple of years now, and battery life is still very good i.e I haven’t noticed a change in battery life.

Nice video and presentation.
One good way to hide flaw with axial based sensors from paddle/crank based is combined power/time plot and not separated left and right plot.

Axial based sensors produce mono torque data requires cadence timing to distinguish left from right that involves post processing. Flaws contributed by cadence timing and algorithm will be lost in combined plot.

I have been using the Power2Max units since their orginal classic version and every one of them has been spot on in terms of readings. The only warrenty issue I have had the local distributer was on it and they even helped me out with a unit that I broke in a crash. Highly recomended.

Stages L/R cranks (105 on left, Ultegra on right... I'm not too picky). I ride a lot with flats so pedals are not very good option for me. As my power is balanced so usually left is on my gravel bike and right on my road bike. So basically with one system i can have two bikes ready.

Installation and removal is bit of a hassle, thou Shimano's Hollowtech is pretty slick. Pedal certainly has advantage in this.

Main issue is that Ultegra it self is known to be structurally weak, hopefully mine lasts longer than powermeter itself.

Yeah I've got left stages and only reason I haven't got their right side is due to that reported inaccuracy due to their shape. Never had an issue with my G2 except hitting bumps downhill at around 70kph they can get power spikes. Still great for training- get fitter and faster power goes up, but would like to know my left/ right balance and see how near 50:50 they are as I do favour one leg walking due to an ankle issue so would like to know if that transfers to the bike. Great to hear you can get shimano cleats with the assioma's as thats one thing that puts me off as I hate keo cleats.

As a long time Powertap user (both hub and pedals) would no recommend the Powertap pedals (either P1 or P2) purely because the bearings are not user serviceable (unlike the Assioma) or even serviceable by SRAM Australia, need to be sent to the US and return postage is stupid. ps have not had any extra pedal strike issues with the Powertap pedal over regular Look pedals in crits or otherwise, and both sets the P1 and P2s have a lot of scrapes (as do my regular pedals)
