For all those who have been ghosted at some point in their career, I request them to log onto ambitionbox or glassdoor and share their experiences. It's important to blacklist such companies and call them out.

Ghosting has become norm now. Only way to cope up is to reject yourself mentally after interview and move on with life. If you have cleared they will come back otherwise they will not. Only 5-10% company tell you that you are rejected and rest of them just ghost.

It is not employer issue but rather an employee issue.

The company doesn't ask someone to ghost a candidate they rather expect HR to communicate based on priority. Over the pandemic the bar for both HR as well as recruits fell down significantly and along with parallel pursuits for best opportunity capture.

It's basically an unchecked and unethical employee behaviour which the orgs are indirectly getting accustomed too.

Ghosting is nothing new for salesmen and suppliers.
Legitimate-sounding inquiries end with a promise to revert that never happens.
Seasoned suppliers know never to mistake an inquiry to be a serious expression of interest.

looking for a job years ago, I just left the building from my first interview. As I was walking through parking lot, another woman was entering and met with interviewer on stairs that was visible through glass wall. The woman said something urgently to interviewer and she acted shocked to statement, then turned and looked at me out in the parking lot. So ghosting can take different forms. Hacking your phone for your resume, showing up at your work place to discredit you, all the while using your credentials to gain your position. It happens a lot more than you think.
Another thing I noticed was my email being hijacked over the years. Ive had to make a new account at least five times. Even still today, there are emails I havent received that arent business related. I get a message saying undeliverable, mostly from microsoft. Im not emailing them from my google account, but they block some emails from going through. A day or two after that I get spam emails cluttering up inbox.

Its annoying and timewasting when an employer fails to notify an interviewee that they didn't get the job. Especially when you are given the impression that you are the preferred candidate and the job is virtually yours. It can cause you to ignore or reject other opportunities while you wait around for confirmation.

Happened to me last month. I applied for a senior position at MSC. I went through the initial whatsapp audio interview with HR, they were very keen on hiring me. we exchanged about 6 very positive emails before the interview.
They asked me to go for the second round of interviews the following day with Senior management, They kept saying they absolutely loved my resume before and after the audio interview.

They set up a zoom call for 11am the following day for the technical interview. I was very excited. The following day I got an email early morning telling me that before the big 11am interview with senior management, I would have a 5 minutes zoom interview at 10am with whats called an acquisition and talent consultant.


At 10am the interview started. the acquisiton consultant had zero clue about the technical aspect of the position. He was just an HR guy. Verified that I was really the candidate from the Resume and audio interview twice ! He asked me where I am from. where I am working, which is all in my Resume by the way, and asked if I had any questions. I said I had some few questions about the job but he was clueless. So I said no big deal I'd ask my peers in our interview in an hour. That 5 min. interview was really just 5 minutes.

30 minutes later. I received an email informing me that the main technical interview was canceled.
I asked why, but was ghosted. I asked when it would be rescheduled...ghosted. I was left with 100 questions...was it because of my beard ? because I am black ? The face didn't match the Resume ? Did I look too confident ? What is it that the acquisition guy didn't like about me ??

I have noticed this is certainly happening, and it is due to the the pandemic. The reason is that companies are finding it difficult to get hold of employees with the required skills and expertise to fill positions they need to be filled working under the terms and conditions that new employees are prepared to accept. During the pandemic training has taken a step backward, so employees as a whole have lost about 2 to 3 years of experience, a lot of people were laid off and don't really want to have anything to do with ghe companies that laid them off, and many have moved on and are doing their own business or have decided to retire early, and a lot have got used to the flexibility of working at home. Then there is the corporate senior management which is out of touch with the marketplace reality, and just keep advertising jobs for months without filling them. They are unable to fill the jobs and keep on advertising them in the hope that it will be filled eventually. They don't want to reject applicants, but are unable to get people who are happy with the terms and conditions that potential employees will accept, so they just end up ghosting them when the post is not filled.
The ghosting of companies by applicants is a sign of the contempt applicants who have been ghosted by employers - 75% of applicants ghosted by employers and 37% of jobs ghosted by employees who have waited for a response simply not turning up for work at employers who have kept them waiting basically returning the same treatment employers have shown them after they have accepted an alternative job offer.

That happened with me, i have cleared 4 rounds at tivo (Xperi is parent org) and my 5th round was rescheduled and i never received the 5th round date confirmation/ offer letter / reson for rescheduling/ rescheduling date/ some waited follow up mail replies /not even rejection, later after 2 years i found out that the HR i was contacting was in notice period and she decided to not care about my calls or emails and just switched her job, didn't even assign my interview with another candidate, in covid times, it was hard as it was a high package job and after 4 solid interviews, this ghosting is def not good.
