In this video, we went behind the scenes with commercial and fashion photographer Ian Spanier to see his step-by-step lighting process for bold commercial portraits with an interior corner setting. Ian utilizes an FJ400 strobe setup with an umbrella and two backdrops.

I did a shoot with a Ballerina about a year using that same Westcott 7' umbrella and diffusion panel. Totally rocked it! Can't wait to do another now that I have a recently purchased FJ400. You're awesome Westcott!

My go to one light setup is a 48” para set back about the distance an 85mm would get full body shots. I love how the shadows are soft but the light is punchy. No diffusion just the para adjusted to be as soft and widest spread as possible.

you use the silver umbrella for a crispy look. but if you put a diffuser on, don’t you take that crispy out again?
