The only way to stop bitter men and women, it’s to empower women and ensure that men can handle empowered women. At the crux of Jaya and Shwetas jealousy, lies their disempowerment and lack of stardom. Jaya suffered Amitabhs bad temper, affairs and him holding her back. Wanting a certain type of wife at home, who fit the parents demands but desiring a completely different type of woman. Jaya was not his first choice. She fit the demands placed on Amitabh. Stop marrying for convenience because no one can keep it up.

Shweta was not allowed to become an actress. She did not have an identity of her own, when she got married because she got married early. She has never been a star or been viewed as a star kid. That eats at her and she became more aware of it AFTER, Aishwarya married Abhishek. The only way to stop this problem, is to ensure that ALL women are empowered and all men are mature, responsible and can handle modern independent women. That way, a woman who’s busy in her own career and achievements, doesn’t have time to be jealous of another and even if her husband has an affair, she can dump him with her head held high and be with someone else.

Aishwarya can leave Abhishek, and Abhsihek and his family will be shamed for not being handle a global superstar. Abhishek will be shamed. Any girl who dates or married Abhishek after his divorce, will be compared to Aishwarya. The media will scrutinise her. Aishwarya has built her name. Her name holds more weight than being a Bachan Bahu. Jaya did not leave because she wanted the Bachan tag. Jaya would not have needed the Bachan name, had she continued to work and made a name for herself.

Those times were different and gender discrimination may not have turned Jaya into a complete superstar, yet she’d still have a name etched in history. The aim is to achieve as much as you can, in the generation you belong to and under the conditions you have. Jaya and Shweta did not do that. People with no achievements or achievements from 10-40 years ago, who dont have much time left to become who they wanted to be, show obvious signs of jealousy when they are in the company of people, who have achieved far more than them, especially at a younger age.

Resilience, gathering support and convincing others why it’s important to empower you, is also a skill. Jaya and Shweta lacked the skill to become independent and take a stand for themselves, even in the face of opposition. Pleasing Amitabh and seeking his validation, was more important than personal achievement. Again, a confident and courageous person would not have placed value on Amitabhs validation, if it clashed with their quest for independence. Aishwarya values her independence and she has a red line. Jaya, Shweta and Abhishek have no identity of their own nor are they independent.

Women who do not empower their daughters, are dependent on their husbands or sons, in South Asia. Aishwarya takes care of her mother because she is empowered. Jaya, in her quest for Amitabhs validation, did not empower Shweta, which made both mother and daughter insecure and needy. Had Jaya empowered Shweta, she would need not validation from Amitabh or abhishek, and she would not have felt insecure about Aishwarya, wanting her to dim her light, be in the background and hold her back. Instead of having two insecure dependent adult married children, Jaya would have had only one, namely abhishek. But her need for Amitabhs validation clouded her judgement.

Look at Kareena and Karisma. Both empowered daughters from a mother, who decided to end the nonsense. Babita does not need a son. Her daughters take better care of her than Ranbir and Riddhima take care of Neetu. That’s because riddhima is not as independent and Ranbir has issues. Women who are the mercy of men, detest the men they depend on. Independence is a human need. Without it, you are incomplete and not at all whole. It is need. Not a luxury.
