As both a road and mtn biker, the bunny hop is THE most valuable skill in my opinion. On the road, I've been able to hop rail road tracks instead of slowing down. Very nice!

I recently learned to place my bidon back in its cage without looking while riding on the rivet. This skill is essential for fast pacelines and is not as easy as one would think.

Had a buddy back in the day who ate PowerBar on his rides, and he would take them out of the wrapper at the star of the ride... then lick one side, and stick it to the frame. And there it would stay, and he would peel off a chunk of PowerBar a little bit at a time.
And, yes, his frame was disgusting all the time... chunks of old bar, spittle. Sticky. Just gross. Dude was gross, to be honest.

Hank is such a good addition to the team. You can tell you're used to presenting arty this point, and the enthusiasm is infectious.

This also goes for the rest of the crew, such a likeable group of people

Seeing Hank at the start reminded me of a ride from a few years ago. I was on a group ride. That day I was using my Look Keo pedals with Carbon sole road shoes. Not the mountain bike pedals and shoes I normally use. I don't race so I find mountain bike pedals better for me. I was about mid way in the group talking to a friend. In front of us was a triathlete on his road bike talking to his girlfriend who was riding his mountain bike. She didn't have a road bike at the time. She fell off the bike in a straight line. The joint in the road where the road works where done was the reason. When she went down, my friend went to go around her on the left due to the way she fell. The problem was the grass was at least a foot higher than the road so he came off as well. He then went head first into the drainage ditch along the side of the road. At the same time I had stopped and got off my bike to help. I grabbed my friend's hand to stop him sliding any further into the ditch. How ever I was wearing my carbon sole road shoes and the Look Keo cleat screwed to the bottom. I needed to put my foot into the ditch near the top. Then I started to slide into the ditch. Another friend had to grab my other hand to stop me from sliding any further in and to stop my friend's head going in the the water. We all got out of the ditch with no issues. I how ever still have no idea how my friend's girlfriend got the chainring on the inside of her left leg.

When I was much younger we used to practice crit racing in our club. We would practice cornering by leaning on each other's shoulders while still pedalling. I can still remember the sound of quill pedals clicking in each other's spokes. We also practiced
echelons, drafting and double pace lines with 20 riders.

Am I the only one who just opens my bar wrappers before I start the ride? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Riding in non-compacted snow on skinny tyres. The secret’s to hardly hold the handlebar, and let the bike slip and slide around, front and back, beneath you, with slow steady turns of the peddles. You have to really practise not grabbing tight when it starts to slide. Bit like driving a 4x4 in sand, if you’ve ever done that. Saved me from a nasty crash on unexpected gravel the other week.

Great video! Very cool. While practicing handling a garment behind your back, be mindful of how close it gets to the wheel. Don't want it getting caught up.

A tip I learned early on was to prep nutrition bars before the ride to make them easy to open in the saddle. Using scissors carefully snip part way into the end of the packaging (not so far as to break the seal). Then pack them into your Jersey pockets so you know which end up the snip is. Then on the road it's the easiest thing in the world to split the packet and get at the energy bar - whether you use your teeth or sit up and use both hands.

I love bunny hops for rough railway crossings, so much smoother and you can ride through them way faster

Perhaps worth distinguishing between bunny hops and jumping the bike. For bunny hops - see GMBN and how to shift weight etc. to jump with shoes loose on the pedals, where the back wheel follows the front. This is a lot easier with a lowered saddle.
Jumping the bike is easier to do with a lightweight road bike and clip in pedals - and at shorter notice when you came across an unexpected hole in the road - just jump straight up and pull the bike with you, taking off and landing with both wheels together.

Slamming the food on your bar, only works when your bar still has structural integrity 😂😂
