Pearl L-55 Antique Brass Three Piece Double Edge Safety Razor - Razor Report and Shave

Hello again if you've been here before and welcome if not. Today I look at a razor provided to me for review by Pearl Shaving, the L-55 Antique Brass double-edge safety razor. The L-55 is a solidly built razor, weighing 105g or 3.7oz. The handle is brass and the head is a zinc alloy (zamac). Both are coated in an antique brass finish. The knurling on the handle works well with wet fingers and is neither too slippery nor overly sharp.

The head, baseplate, and handle all fit together well, with just a small amount of play although there is none once tightened down. I didn't experience any issues with blade alignment. I also appreciate that the baseplate has a recessed area for the tip of the handle to fit. It's a small touch that you don't normally see on budget razors.

The razor is on the aggressive side for me as I prefer that Goldilocks combination of efficient yet mild with just enough blade feel to know it's doing the job. This one provides a good bit of blade feel and feedback but is not as efficient as other razors I own, other razors that are more comfortable for my face I should add. This is not to say that the razor is uncomfortable or inefficient, it just is more blade-forward than I prefer. I think someone who has either a thicker beard or prefers a lot of blade feel would enjoy this one.

Nice shave Eric with the Pearl razor, I'm not sure that I would enjoy a very strong scented aftershave that you used today. Nice to see you in action again.
Have a great day

Nice one Eric. Gotta love your attention to detail. That razor doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy personally, but I’m happy to see they’re making a high quality product that’s competitively priced. Take care now!

Great review. This is second review I’ve seen of this razor and you both pretty much came up with similar conclusions on it. Thanks for the honest review.

Hey Eric, great video. That pearl sounds like a cool little razor. I may just have to take a look at what they have. Have a good one, and I will see you in the next video.

Great! I like that you explained the aggressive and efficient terminology so people have a better understanding of their meaning. I have a more than couple of aggressive razors that aren't that efficient and I have couple of moderate razors that are very efficient. The funny thing I've found is that straights/shavettes don't really feel aggressive at all and I only get that feeing in some safety razors. I like the scent of Nag Shampa, but surprisingly I've never checked out Stirlings offering. Good to know that it's super strong. Not all strong scents bother me so I might have to check that one. I'm a big fan of your "commentary" shaves. I really think they're great and if I were going to do a shaving channel I'd steal that idea-borrow it.

Great review video Eric, Pearl are making some nicely finished razors at a reasonable price, sounds a bit on the aggressive side & heavy for me though. It seems Indian made razors are on the aggressive side.👍🤠

Nice review Eric. It doesn't sound as though I would enjoy the razor due to the aggressiveness. I am like you in that I like an efficient razor, but not one with a lot of blade feel. The blade forward issue was all I needed to hear as I do not like positive blade exposure on a razor. I guess that's why I love the 6s and the Yates 921M so much. They are both very efficient without the aggressiveness. Thanks for the review. It is reviews like this that help me when it comes to what to look into and what to leave alone. I believe I will leave this razor alone. 😉 Thanks again!

Nice video and review Eric. Too bad this razor isn't necessarily for you. Very good looking razor. Nag Champa is another outstanding offering from Stirling! Great products from great people at phenomenal prices! Thank you for sharing your experience with this video!!

Is it safe to shave with a zamak razor whose plating is worn out ?

Nice shave Eric! Definitely not a razor for me, I do an ATG pass every shave and prefer to sneak up on it with mild razors. Have a great Sunday!

Great shave Eric 🪒 I’ll take the razor off your hands if you are willing to sell it to me. I received a bar soap sample of Nag Champa and it’s amazing 🥰👌🏾 I like strong scented soaps! Take care 🙏🏾
