For years now we have been told that the internet is not actually real life, that it is largely separate from real human existence and there was indeed a time when this was true but that is not the case anymore and has not been for some time; people need to realise that this is only going to become more the case and get much worse.

The average American spends six hours a day on their phones. The idea that the internet is its own sequestered little place separate from reality is hopelessly archaic.

The internet is the greatest double edge sword ever created, capable of the most beautiful things and also capable of the most despicable things

Guys are obviously harsher on the internet compared to real life, but with women that aggressivity gap is huge. It makes me mad when they're nice and polite to me in real life knowing it's all virtue signaling or a facade they put to make friends or attract a guy

If she rejects you on the internet, she rejects you for real.

I was born in 1986 and I remember my parents buying a set of encyclopedias in the early 90’s for me to use for school and having to go to the public library for certain assignments, it’s hard to believe how antiquated that is now.

That’s why it’s an oxymoron when people say I don’t watch tv or play video games like it’s some sort of virtue signaling not knowing you still spend hrs on your phone doing social media or just mindless scrolling. The internet defines and shapes our habitus and collective conscious more then reality.

Not having social media confuses the Hell out of most people -- especially women who have no idea how to judge you without some form of social proof or way to gauge your social acceptance in society. Telling a woman I don't have Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter (X), whatever, makes her firmware freeze and glitch 😅

The internet is The Hivemind. It's the greatest weapons system ever devised, and the most potent tool of Totalitarians. You, as individual, have been eliminated and atomized.

I'm a later millenial and the internet infiltrated my life when I was 13(2008). But, I didn't have a phone until I turned 18 and all the phones I have had, including the current one, are old models with buttons, because I find smartphones very annoying and uncomfortable to carry around. I used to be of the principle that when you go outside, you go to socialize, not glue your face on your phone. But that's no longer the case. When I go out with people, which is very rare now, I find myself staring into the void and leaving prematurely, since the others are on their phones. I mean, what's the point anymore?

Just because its on the internet dosen't mean it isn't human interraction. I think the internet serves as a public square where almost anyone can say anything with almost no reprecussions (getting punched in the face) which is both a curse and a blessing. The internet helped bring many issues into the light that would otherwise never be discussed.

It also helps expose parts of people that would take YEARS for the individual to find out. I believe because there are no reprecussions you can say anything that people are more honest behind a screen than per say in a group of someone they know. We all use it, yet we shame each other for it.

"Getting off" the internet is essentially """them""" telling you to shut up and ignore the problems you are trying to bring into the light. Its all in your head and you shouldn't vent or talk about. Take a look at the manosphere as an example.

The internet is both a curse and a blessing. But to call it "not real" interraction is stupid. People tend to expose who they really are through the safety of a screen much quicker than IRL.

As a divorced gen Xer that turned to guys doing their own things, raising my teenage son has pushed me to explore many things to try and understand his world today. This new world he lives in. And curb my outdated advice when I can see it’s incorrect and could be dangerous. Thank you for the interesting and thoughtful content

It's getting pretty hard to go into the Real World (tm) and interact with people because, even when they're there, they often aren't really there. So many people these days walk down the street with earbuds, can't seem to so much as rest between sets at the gym without scrolling through something and can't enjoy a meal without taking a picture of it first. To them, the Real World (tm) and everyone in it seem to just be a distraction from their real world.

We’ve pretty much reached the point where the internet is at the same level of importance as money. We all need it in one way or another.
Difficult to live a normal life without it. How unfortunate.
As time goes, I feel an increasing sorrow for my sons (18 and 22). Internet being such a major part of their daily lives. They’ll never get to experience the same joy as I did as a kid in the 80’s without internet.
It breaks my heart.

Just today I walked into a bookstore inside of a club where zoomers hang out at in Moscow. First book on the desk that caught my attention was called: how insels become serial killers. Yet they just keep gaslighting. Normies truly are their own kind.

Every single day we see examples of just how right the UniBomber was. We ain't ready for the technology we have, not even remotely prepared psychologically

This! This right here is why it's impossible to listen to anything Peterson says, especially in regards to dating and marriage. He's stuck with a rose colored view of the boomer generation's heyday.

Imagine back in 1960 someone said "That's just telephone, not real life". Obviously the internet is a real part of the real world. But so are books and movies and games.

In 10 years, dating will become a thing of the past along with traditional marriage and cohabitation. I am of the impression that this will happen as people no longer have the physical socialization skills to perpetuate these traditional customs. Something will inevitably replace these arrangements through the online Hivemind.
