How to Backwash a Pool Sand Filter #Shorts
Every sand filter needs backwashing every so often to clear out the dust and debris that has accumulated in the sand filter medium and also to reduce the back pressure which will in turn increase the suction in your skimmers and your pool vac.
You must always turn off the pump before moving the multiport valve.
1. Turn off the pump
2. Switch the multiport valve setting to backwash
3. Turn the pump back on and let it run for 2-3 minutes
4. Turn off the pump
5. Switch the multiport valve setting to filter (which resettles the sand)
6. Turn off the pump
7. Switch the multiport valve setting back to filter
8. Turn on the pump and you are done.
