2023 Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid - More Range, Weight, Money

The two tanks dates back to the Dakar Rally days, the tanks for the bikes were made by hand out of aluminum, 2 separate halves, for the simple reason that if one gets punctured (in a fall & starts leaking for example) the other tank was still good and the rider could continue the race. This is why there are two caps, the tanks are not connected.

I have a WR, it's funny reading all the too top heavy comments. I am sure most of these people are just repeating what others have said. Just get used to whatever bike you have, don't fall for marketing propaganda or you will be getting a new bike every year. For me I want a bike to be in my life for a long time, we journey together and I live and except any foibles the bike had. I bought it as I came from a 660Z, very happy.

The idea of the two halves of the tank dates back to the early Dakar times. At that time, the large tanks for the desert ships were made by hand from aluminum. It was easier to build two halves, and then mount them to the left and right. Another advantage was that if a leak was struck in the tank in a fall, the other half of the tank and gasoline could still be saved.

For years I have had my 2015 KTM1190R, a bike that still takes me all over on all terrains. I love the Tenere but I find it amazing how ALL the brands keep juggling with power, weight and distance for the larger adventure bikes. End of the day, know where you want to ride, and your limits. Fit the bike to your riding. Really good review by the way.

Thanks Scott. The standard Tenere always felt a little top heavy. Great to see the tuning fork listen to feedback.

The Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid needs to be imported to the USA. Yamaha is missing out on a major market for this motorcycle.

Incredible that you just put this up - I was knocked off my Africa Twin and it was written off sadly. When I recover I'll be looking for a replacement. Thanks for the upload.

The cruise control on the Tuareg plus tubeless tires gives it the edge for me.

Excellent review mate. Transalp and WR are on my mind choices. T7 has been always my first thought 💭 and after this review, I'm convinced. Thanks my friend. No cruise nor quick shifter is fine for everything on this performance package.

Great review, Scott! I see an opening for SW Motech, or some other after market suppliers to come up with an innovative cover for those two fuel tank lids in the shape of a woman's bosom.

I think it looks kinda jank with two filler caps sitting right next to each other. Couldn't they just have designed one big tank with one filler cap like all the manufacturers do?

Also noticed that the subframe could be lowered down in the bike a bit and since it's taller it would be able to make the foot pegs to be lowered to help with being into the bike instead of feeling like you're up on a flag pole. I'm going to end up talking myself into buying this bike to make these modifications if I'm not careful. Okay I'm going to spill the beans cause my first bike was a Yamaha mx bike back in the 70s and they will always have a place in my heart and this World Raid is no exception and it just looks awesome!

i seriously consider this bike for my new, lighter setup after tiger 1200. But my heart goes for Husky 901 expedition. 2k euro more but boy, you gets lots more. And the look, i fall in love instantly. Atter 5k km i love it even more.

If Yamaha could tilt that motor forward and drop that motor down would be in their favor for lowering the center of gravity to not be so top heavy I would definitely consider making a purchase of this amazing machine from Yamaha!

Road tested this last Friday morning. Still Insanely top heavy for a middle weight, felt like a big GS. It's very confusing how these brands don't listen to the community and upgrade / update designs. Look at the Norden, amazing balance with the tank down low, was such a smooth ride. It feels like the market is clinging to the AT / GS designs thinking there just can't be anything better. Will I NOT keep riding my GS, of course not. I'm a die hard 1250 rider but that's my preference, and there's such a HUGE influx of riders into the genre looking for middle weight bikes that aren't build with 1250 style setups.

i have a 2022 T7. Just did 8000 miles in July, went from NC, to Mexico, then CDT to Canada and then back to NC. I added the McCruise which was flawless and doubles the bikes rideability for me.

It's nice they expand the capabilities of the bike by adding the extra range, but as someone who rides my Tenere 700 in standard trim pretty hard offroad primarily, I can't imagine how horrible it would be to wrestle that extra weight around on service roads and tandem trails for multiple days.

Glad they put cruise control on it! I wouldn't buy it without.
