A good film and a good message. As a karate student of 15 years, I would agree with all of the sentiments. Karate is also a life long pursuit. No retirement age, so you get many students of all ages. I love it.

Recently I joined a dojo near my area, and I am so glad I did it's now been about 4 months and a half. I started off very worried and got frustrated at myself for not being able to do some of the kicks and kata, but my sensei would keep reminding me that I had only just started out and I wouldn't be perfect at everything. After my first 2 months I had earned my first belt (Red with black stripe) it was 3rd belt up from white. After every session I'd continue practicing perfecting the kata I had to learn and getting the kicks and punches to the best I could. My most recent grading was last week actually and I was shaking like crazy but I got a hold of my nerves and went out onto the mat and did my absolute best and according to all three instructors I did amazing I got the 5th highest score in the class 74/80 and moved up not one but 2 belts I would've gone to normal red but I skipped it and went to yellow! I know I am only a beginner and my story isn't very long but I just want other beginners to know that YOU CAN DO IT!!! all it takes is belief dedication and determination and don't be afraid of your worried about the new people maybe ask around in your school or local area and see if anyone you know goes to karate having someone you know there can help a ton and I should know.

Before 1955, Korea did not have the term taekwondo. Korean martial arts were mainly based on karate, tang shou and a small number of folk style. During the Japanese occupation, a large number of young Korean students went to Japan to study and received systematic training in Japan (trained in karate). After returning to Korea, they started to set up a gym to teach students.

Love the part kids rolling on ground and practice fighting each other, reminding me the wrestling experience I have loved since elementary school.

I used to play karate back in 2017 when I was 9 years old and took the yellow belt but then I stopped
Now I'm 14years old and I decided to go back to karate, tomorrow is my test to retake the yellow belt and I'm really happy
Between everyone in the class, I was the only one with a white belt and I kinda felt ashamed but I remembered that...
We all start somewhere.
Right?
I also have my body as my biggest insecurity, and that's one of the reasons I started playing karate once again, which is to get fit in a fun way because I'm not a fan of gyms, anyway, when I saw how everyone was fit and had great bodies meanwhile I'm bigger than them I felt ashamed again but I remembered that I'm here to get fit and again
We all start somewhere.

Always remember that, and no matter what's your age, your looks and body image, just do it
It's Now, or Never.

If youve just started
1. Respect your sensei
2. Sorry RESPECT EVERYONE
3. Its not like school if u talk while ur sensei is unless they are nice youre highly likely gonna get kicked out
4. If u cant do something dont give up ask your sensei or senpais for help
5. Dont smell like poop and have dirty feet
6. There is probably more things to do as a begginner

I like the ground game I see in your video. Nowadays learning to get back up when on the ground is essential

Very nicely presented. I'd recommend the classic book "Moving Zen" by C.W. Nicol, about the path that a young Brit took studying Shotokan karate in Japan.
I've trained most of my life since I was 11. I'm 67 now and can say that it's been one of the richest experiences of my life. Naturally I've had to adapt to getting older but it continues to be a wonderful journey and I feel blessed to have started it.

IMO, Karate is fine, but it has holes in its technique. I suggest adding some boxing for the footwork, hand positioning, and punching.with power. Karate does not use enough pulled punches and too many pushed punches. Obviously, being comfortable with grappling completes the fighter.

I was put off by a local school that was run by someone who was only interested in making money. Back in the nineties, there was only one karate school in town and the owner had a near monopoly in the county. I left after 4 months, a shame as a proper school with a good sensei would have kept me training.

I failed my yellow belt test when I was 9 or 10. Not sure if it was a lack of preparation, nerves, not taking it seriously or just plain stupidity .Anyway I was so embarrassed and humiliated that I never went back to that school. In later years I was always pretty good in practice combat and exercises but would get stage fright for those fucking belt tests.

I'm hopefully starting karate after covid. I'm 15 so I'm really scared that I'm starting too old.
