I’m an international student. For a while I’ve been interested in learning American history, but after coming here my interest has only gone up. The people are so welcoming, friendly and humble. Which is not what I was expecting given what the US has achieved. It was a humbling and joyous experience for me too. I’m loving immersing myself into American culture and understanding the country first hand by making more American friends.

This is the first country where I have felt like I am one of them instead of being othered because I’m not a citizen. I struggle to fit in in my country Pakistan because my parents left the country very early in my life. In the Middle East I knew I will always be a foreigner no matter what I do. I loved to Georgia in the Caucasus mountains where there was a bit of an improvement, but I didn’t have any luck trying to interact with the locals and get an understanding of the local culture and the people. It was a difficult decision to pivot and move to the US.

America is the first country in my life which has fulfilled all of the above and I love it here. I love this country. What just worries me is how immigration policies will affect me after graduation. I’m in California Bay Area (Silicon Valley) and I’m getting in on the entrepreneurial culture here. I’d like to be given the chance to stay here and become a successful entrepreneur.
