+++The WDR BIG BAND CD album "Jackets XL" is nominated for the GRAMMY 2022 in the category "Best large Jazz ensemble album".

Die Yellowjackets gehören mit einer nunmehr 40-jährigen Bühnenerfahrung ohne Frage zu den führenden Ensembles des "Contemporary Jazz". Hervorgegangen ist das Quartett Ende der 1970er-Jahre aus der Robben Ford Band. Die Yellowjackets kreierten einen eigenen, unverwechselbaren Sound, der akustischen und elektrischen Jazz auf besondere Weise miteinander verbindet. Neben mehrfachen Nominierungen gewann die Band zweimal den begehrten Musikpreis Grammy.

Mit dem CD Projekt "JacketsXL - Yellowjackets & WDR Big Band" bekräftigen die beiden Ensembles erneut ihr bereits über jahrzehntelange Zusammenarbeit. Nach der Veröffentlichung des Videos "One Day" kommt hier nun der Titel "Downtown", komponiert von Russel Ferrante und für die WDR Big Band arrangiert von Chefkomponist Vince Mendoza. Soli spielen Dane Alderson (E-Bass), Johan Hörlén (Altsaxofon) und Will Kennedy (Drums). Aufgenommen im November 2019 im WDR Studio 4, Köln.
