Home Made Wind Turbine using an eletric scooter motor

This video shows how i constructed my wind turbine, using a motor from an eletric scooter and marine plywood to produce the blades.

TURBINE:
Nominal power: 200W
Configuration: 3 blades, horizontal axis, downwind

ROTOR:
Rotor lengh: 0,6m (radius)
Blade material: marine plywood
Power regulation: Stall control

MOTOR:
200W
24V DC
2500 RPM

I followed hugh piggott's book: "How to build a
WIND TURBINE" in order to help me during this project.

Thanks for watching.

I wouldn't say that was the average home. All those super tools and whirly-gigs and what-nots. I don't have them at my place. All the same, a work of art!

I think your blades are beautiful. It was my feeling as I watched the video that a larger diameter is in order. Your comment about starting torque is a clue.

thanks!
i bought my axis from a lathe operator, it's strong and not much expensive. good luck

This is great a so simple, well except the blades, i have all these parts, im def gna build one for power on my allotment, i may make pvc blades tho instead as ive made them before and are quite easy to make.

This is for przosa. I agree plastic or acrylic of some kind would be way better. I would either look for uv resistant material or purchase some uv protective paint. As for durability in high wind your week point will obviously be the bolt attachment holes themselves. try sandwiching them with aluminum plate to help spread out the stress caused by rotation. The wood ones are sweet don't get me wrong but plastic would save weight  which = speed.

hi davide. so how was the result? as u know the motor requires big torque. appreciate if u can share. thanks.

yeah plastic or acrylic blades can turn faster as it's lighter than wood.. but that materials may be a bit more sensitive to high temperatures and wind velocities, i think..

Well done. Thinking of building something similar one day once I live in a place suitable to mount it. Are you going to build a much bigger one?

Well your on the right track you just need to gear it up with a chain set from the same scooter, I get 200 watts+ from mine windmk5

Cool, does the scooter motor provide DC power stable enough to charge a battery?

yes you can power a pocket flashlight with this

How many volts/watts at what mph? Would love to know more about how it worked. I have a bunch of these motors left over from hot roding e-scooters.

this is very cool but when you say the rotor length is 0.6 meter do you mean 0.6 meters in diameter

Do you use this to charge a battery pack?

if you had a 500w motor from a scooter... what do you think the changes would be?

Good work for the windmill but this motor is not made to work as generator
it will produce about 2 or 3 volts at 320 Rpm, not much more
good luck

Have you tested the output at 200 watts?

Use pvc pipe for blades and a chain set to increase rpm to about 2000 ie 7 to 1

uma duvida talvez muito idiota mas que nao m sai da cabeça: como se resolve a questao da torçao dos fios dentro da torre com as mudanças do quadrante do vento???
