After over a decade of membership in the Big XII, it is a little late to complain that WVU is not a good fit. Let's go back to the time when the Big XII was down to only 8 teams, after Mizzou and TAMU bolted, and needed two sports-worthy teams to complete its upcoming football and fulfill its TV contracts. Realignment was happening throughout college football. By chance, Pitt and 'Cuse announced they were leaving the old Big East football conference at end of next season. The Big East football conference became a very unstable conferene due to its management and failure to expand as it planned. AD Oliver Luck explored the viability of WVU filling one of the Big XII's immediate openings. After positive feedback, WVU sued the Big East in court to exit immediately. After a court settlement, WVU paid $12 million and the Big XII paid $8 million to get an early exit. In addition, TCU reconsidered its agreement to join the Big East and cancelled it. The outcome was that WVU and TCU came to the rescue and the Big XII was able to complete its football schedule with 10 teams and filfill it TV contracts. WVU remains the Big XII's "mountain outpost" back East.

I always thought luck an holgerson had more to do with us in big 12 then acc or sec not wanting us for whatever reason. Big east was an excellent football an surely great basketball. I've said all the big 12 yrs holgerson did nothing to fix our defense an same now with brown. The 3 man d line nickel prevent defense don't work in big 12 with 3 star an juco transfers. Can't believe Neal brown now does not know this. Look at bama Georgia just about every NFL team. They use the, 4 man d line.
