The danger is RENT. RENT is brutal in Australia. Very easy to become homeless here.

Can confirm it’s almost impossible to survive on a single income (my employment is in health care, blood collector) then the rent on top of the insane prices. Just depressing

It’s just getting worse and it’s not just your weekly shopping either. Cars are bloody expensive, house prices are ridiculously expensive and if you rent it’s between $500 - $800 a week. Power is way to high and yet we are a country full of minerals ( iron ore, gold, nickel, copper ) and the list goes on. We should be one of the wealthiest countries in the world but our elderly can’t even afford power.

Remember though australians have higher wages than Europeans do for most jobs.
I live in the Netherlands for the past 5 and i have lived in australia for 15 before that. Groceries used to be cheaper here in holland now not so much.
Same goes for housing.
Inflation has hit us all like a brick wall.

It’s happening all over the world, not just Australia.
Go to the Uk and Europe it’s more expensive. In some parts of Europe it’s over $3 a ltr for fuel.

Same as Canada, except the Coke. It's about $20 for 18 cans. Except our minimum wage is $17.25 in Canada and $24.10. Cost of housing has doubled here in the last 10 years. Average house price in Can $721, 000. In Australia $690, 000.

Tap water is cheap and actually quenches your thirst and not a lot of aluminium required

You guys haven't still lived in Iran!!! Here minimum wage is about one dollar per hour and you can buy 4 cans of Coke with that money :)

Who the hell is selling that pack of coke for $50. Ive never seen that before. You can get a 3 litre bottle of milk for $4 . You need to name the suburb that you go to do your shopping in.

Not too bad honestly. Dont buy cans buy bottles. Also the cheeses per kg price is super low. On top of that aud is quite low so prices sound high but arent that bad. As long as you dont smoke or have an alcohol problem its all managble considering the salaries

Look for specials at Cole’s or Woolworths every Wednesday for drinks
Never buy the cans for $50 😅 they go on special for around $24-$28 every week changed over either the 24 cans or the 30
Even aldi has better deals on groceries then woolies or coles

Buy stuff when its on special or half price, and you don't need chocolate or the top of the range Milk. Don't need cans of coke. I have seen 30 cans of coke for $30, so wait for specials if you are that desperate, or get a litre of coke. Just drink water not coke. I get 3 litres of milk for $4.35 .

Divide all by two to get price in £. Also, that is like the most expensive milk on the shelf. If you aren’t buying soft drinks on sale what are you doing? Guarantee next week Cole’s or Woolies will have them half price.

Yeah cost of living has gone up a lot. But Australia’s housing is the main problem. We are still paid well by international standards and inflation has actually been consistent with countries like the UK, better than NZ and Canada.

The real problem is affordable housing. But what can you do? Nobody wants to think their house won’t appreciate in value the same way they see it happening now. The electorate made it quite clear in 2019. Australian is a nation of realestate investors, some of whom are still “building capital.” Nobody in politics will piss off landlords, in a democracy… you’ve got to wonder why there are no votes in it.

About to elect a party in cahoots with realestate developers to fix the problem. Sure that’ll do it! Whatever, 1M-2M more homes, and you bet they’ll be bought up by an admittedly growing property owning class, but which is more rapidly leaving the rest of society behind.

We need to start taxing wealth more. Start taxing income more progressively and start taxing consumption less. Until then, the inequality will keep rising. Until people’s political positions reflect their financial reality, the rich will keep getting richer.

Yip it’s crap!!! I’m constantly rechecking my dockets thinking this can’t be right!!!!
Coke is par to a carton of beer.
Really????🤦‍♀️

Few years ago before selling my house. My mortgage went from $280 a week to $700 a week within like 2 years.
It didn't mean much to us financially but it was a crazy rise.
