I was looking around on the internet as I do and I stumbled across mapscii and didn't think much of it and then I actually looked into the application and though why in the world does an open street maps terminal client exist, I still don't know but it was a fun experiment.

Thank you, Brodie. I love mapscii. Useless but great.

The video brought back a lot of memories. Mapscii is a great remake of the the old asci maps. Back in the days of BBSes, telnet servers, Gopher servers and 300-2400 baud modems, there was a University server that created an ASCII map of the world very much like Mapscii in appearance and fuction. Pre-WWW was a land of text so maps were ASCII as was most everything else.

I predict a hacker movie or tv series using this onscreen ha ha

I actually think the block characters look much nicer. The Braille is a bit too busy.
Also, if your terminal is slow, the block characters render a lot faster. Doesn't make a difference in alacritty, but if you run it in urxvt, block mode is actually useable, while Braille turns it into a slideshow.

My pronunciation of the town names would be so different than yours. Does the people around you speak like you do or do? I'm more used to the american english and british english and it got me wondering if it is an Australian or a Brodie way of saying.
Didn't mean to be offensive, just wondered.
Cheers

I think it would rock if it used truecolor. Chafa is really good, it would make a good backend. Also a search function would be nice

This may be a decent way to test Alacritty's GPU capabilities. Can you use this (and some other "trying to render graphics on the terminal" applications) to test Alacritty vs [insert common/prefered terminal emulators] like st?

telnet wasn't a predecessor to ssh. first it was r shell, then s shell then ssh.

You just padded out this video you should have just done like a five minute video on MapSCII and that’s all it should have been.
