The last of the victims of a gunman’s racist attack on a Buffalo supermarket was laid to rest Saturday.

Ruth Whitfield, at 86, is the oldest of the 10 people killed. Whitfield was eulogized by civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton at a service attended by Vice President Kamala Harris, who also delivered remarks.

“The pain that this family is feeling right now, and the nine other families here in Buffalo, I cannot even begin to express our collective pain as a nation, what you are feeling in such an extreme way,” said Harris.

Whitfield was inside the Tops Friendly Market after visiting her husband of 68 years in a nursing home May 14 when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire.
