Locomotive Bells: Bronze vs Steel vs Electronic

Here we compare three different bells. From left to right we have a bronze EMD bell, a steel UKM bell, and a Graham-White e-bell. Again, you decide which you prefer. The two air bells have brand new Graham-White air motors installed and sound better than the previous video. Shot with an iPhone 4S.

Gotta love the steel bell. The E-bell does also sound good but nothing will beat a true steel bell.

This 50 second video is more informative than every other train bell video on the net, thanks for sharing.

The E-bell sounds realistic, but that bronze bell sounds very good. It reminds of the bell in Metra cab car 8473

The e bell is just a speaker. It's on the new trains today.

if all of the trains had steel bells or bronze bells, it would be amazing

Steel bell by far, reminds me of the good old EMDs.

If I had to choose my favorite I would have to choose the electronic bell. The other bells sounded nice as well.
Bronze bell: metro north cab car
Steel bell: freight trains
Electronic bell: Amtrak trains

Interesting, The locomotives owned by Armco Steel had steel bells on them, but had a lighter sound to them and rang a lot faster than normal, later switchers, SW1500's, had the usual bell found on most EMD locomotive models.

Wow I actually didn't know those bells were worked by compressed air.

Literally every train in my area (Mostly CP Rail and CN Rail) use the E-bell.

I prefer the sound of the bronze bell. The ebell sounds like it's either synthesized or recorded to emulate that, but it's got a harshness to it that I don't like.

I have the feeling that vintage bell lovers will hate me by saying this but I prefer the sound of the E-Bell that's probably because I'm so used to it but I still like the sound of the bronze bell.

I see all these people using the ebell by plugging it into an AC wall outlet. Its supposed to run on DC. Wouldn't using AC cause damage?
