I think Hoppe deserves a start at the 9. His link up play and awareness to break the lines and pretty good finishing Is the perfect combo of what Gregg wants.. I don’t think he’ll move Reyna central cause what I’ve seen he wants to create from the wings.. But man, a Pulisic Hoppe and Reyna trio would be amazing!!

In my opinion moving Reyna and Aaronson to the attacking 8 position is essential to the balance of our midfield. However with injuries I think them playing a hybrid winger role at times will benefit us too.

WINGERS: Pulisic, ~Reyna, Dest, Konrad, Weah, Hoppe, Sargent

1: KONRAD recency bias is okay, because he's finally refined his final touch. He was a speedy dribbler who wasn't dangerous because he couldn't finish. His decision making and touch in the final 6 to 10 yards of the field was poor. Now... he appears to be making that final step. (Your Brazilian rose colored glasses crack me up, but I don't disagree. He's no Di María though.)

2: SERGIÑO DEST is as close to a "like-for-like" winger replacement for Pulisic as we have.
-a- He is fast, short, speedy on the dribble.
-b- His defending sucks... or at least is sketchy.
-c- His finishing isn't good (with a few exceptions), but his assisting is good.
-d- He is right footed an doesn't cross well with his left foot, but prefers to cut in from the left to his right foot.
-e- He is a winger playing wing-back/full back... and Pulisic may soon be as well, for Chelsea.

3: BRENDEN ARRONSON can play anywhere in the front 6 and I know that we don't have to worry about his effort and effectiveness. Playing the #9 is the least optimal, but he had a goal this past week from a position and a run that is usually occupied/made by the #9, so he's someone that you never have to worry about.

4: Was listening to a podcast interview with Berhalter last night and I have no question that CRISTIAN ROLDAN will be included in at least one of this fall's 3-game windows. Berhalter knows what he gets from a late game Roldan and in several games in the Gold Cup, Roldan rewarded that faith. And the teams that we'll face in qualifying are the teams that we faced in the Gold Cup (or at least comparable). Plus, Roldan is local, so he can save a Euro player from 10K to 15K air miles in one window if he calls in Roldan and that will be appreciated by the European clubs and possibly by the Euro-based players.

STRIKERS: Christian Ramirez (Aberdeen), Hoppe, Pefok, Sargent, Zardes, Dike (if healthy he moves to 4th place)

1: No idea why CHRISTIAN RAMIREZ doesn't get any run at striker, but he should. He's a big target and he does that "scoring goals thing" that people frequently like their #9s to do.

2: The trust and understanding that Berhalter has for/with ZARDES means that Gyasi absolutely will be on the plane to Qatar. Even over Sebastian Lletget, Zardes is Berhalter's guy.

3: HOPPE will get some minutes at the #9 in one of the first two windows this fall. It most likely won't be a start, but it will either be a move into that position later in the game or a later game substitution. Apparently he was not match fit for the start of the Gold Cup (according to Berhalter's interview), but played his way into shape as the tournament went on. Berhalter loves him to. He's becoming one of "his guys".

Fairly new to the channel so I'm not sure if this has been talked about, but im curious if you ever think we'll line up with a false nine if nobody manages to truly earn the striker spot. The longer we go without a consistent goal scorer up front the more I want to see it tested. I feel like Reyna, Aaronson, and Caden Clark could possibly play that role. Keeping Pulisic on the wing and possibly Sargent/Hoppe/Konrad on the other, while also allowing either or them to flow inside when Reyna. I think this would also play to the strength of allowing our other midfielders like Mckennie and Musah to make runs into the box. As well as freeing up extra space on the wings for the likes of Dest and Robinson. All while allowing us to keep a 6 like Adams in the game and help anchor the defense while the rest of the midfield and wingbacks get forward. I feel like this could work and the formation could consistently flow anywhere form a 433 false 9 to a 41212 to a 352. Would love to hear a breakdown from you about this or something similar, as well as if you think this could be a solution to our search for our next nine.

I’m a very visual person, and I know a lot of people are. Is there any chance that, for next time you go through this series, you could make a visual list or graphic at the end of every position? It’d help me a lot with trying to visualize the depth chart. Great video as usual, looking forward to the next couple months to see these guys develop more!

Owen Otasowie move to Club Brugge completed. Hope he steps up his game getting important play time.

I am still a Sargent believer but I do want to see what Hoppe can do as our CF. He could be lethal.

“Wing-ger”, I tease the ones I love. Off topic suggestion, how bout an episode of Tactical Manager TV in remedial Brazilian Portuguese?

I like sargent’s physicality, but Hoppe’s passion and fire seems to fit more of what I want out of a number nine. Seeing him play at gold cup was awesome.

Will Pulisic be ready for the WC qualifiers in September? Hoping his Covid positive doesn't keep him out.

So where would you actually put Aaronson? I've been watching him and I think you probably won't agree but he needs to be on the field for the US.

Curious why Soto disappeared from everybody's depth charts at forward after scoring twice against Panama last year. Not advocating for him, I really don't know enough about him, just curious.

What do we do with Jordan Morris? Wasn't mentioned.

Sleeping on Aaronson, I have him higher than Konrad and Weah. I think he offers more than you think. You need to take in to account how well they press. He is high effort.

You said repeatedly that you don't see Aaronson as a winger long term, but didn't say where you would prefer he play. I'm assuming attacking CM, backing up Reyna, is that right?

Tyler Boyd as a winger? Soto, Ferreira, Haji Wright or Novakovich as a #9?

I like Hoppe. I think you can tell he was playing the game in his head ahead of his teammates during the Gold Cup. Ideally, when he gets with the other Euro based players it will be much more in sync. I like your picks. I hope Pepi does not go to El Tri.
