I absolutely love my pea puffers. I had one adult in a communal tank and it quickly became my favorite. Which is good because she had babies shortly after two weeks of settling in. Now I have three tiny baby peas in an isolated 10 gallon and they are so damn adorable!!! If you shut the lights off at night they actually find live plant leaves and lay down and rest/sleep at night. You want to talk about adorable. Find them sleeping on a leaf as a baby!! They set themselves in my heart as my hands down favorite fish I own. I have 9 tanks and an array of cichlids and communal fish. And these little angels are the best. So curious and boasting massive personalities for such a blip of a fish 😂. If you’ve even considered one. Just get it. They will win your heart over without question.

Very great summary! 👏👏

I love how well you described all the pros and cons with them!

Only other thing to note is that their picky eaters, preferring live and frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp over dry prepared foods like flakes and pellets, but they won’t need hard crunchy foods like snails to wear down their teeth the way other puffers do.

A personal experience - I find that you can lower their overall aggression if you keep a school of them. In nature they are found as a schooling species, so they feel more secure in large numbers. In my experience, keeping a group of six of them completely removes the aggression they have towards other fish.

I swear there are too many cute and pretty fish who cannot play along with other fish. lol

I have four of these, an adult individual I got several months ago that was the only one of three that survived a two hour trip home, and three babies I got recently. They all get along swimmingly (heh…) and the adult only occasionally takes the babies on a rodeo when they try to steal the bloodworms out of his mouth.

"While they lack in size, the have a huge personality"😊

I thought it was going to end with the tiny, cute puffer simply massacring a shrimp or another fish. 😮

I actually found that keeping them with more boisterous fish helped diffuse intraspecific aggression

Can only be kept with fast small fish. They will guaranteed nip and eat fins of anything slow enough.

Fun timing of this, I got 3 pea puffers a few days ago. They came very small and have yet to take to the recommended Vibra Bites.

Mine keeps trying to figure out how to eat the Apple Snail that is 15 times its size.
That's attitude.

Love foods are absolutely
non-negotiable,
so ALWAYS have worms & snails ready.
And swords plants or hair algae
for them to sleep on.
