eye fi

This is a video review of how I use my eye-fi wireless SD card with both my Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Canon 5D mark III. It's pretty simple, but I shoot RAW typically so I set the eye-fi up to only transfer the JPEGs which I create using in camera RAW processing.

Thank you. Just purchased one on amazon. Was debating on going with a different brand called Transcend which is a class 10 for more storage but decided to stick with what YOU are using.

It's class 6 and yes it's slow but it's not a deal breaker for me when I want to be able to get images to my phone easily. But it's also not the only card I own/use, I'll switch to a faster card when needed.

yes, that's exactly what it does. You then connect to that network with your phone. pretty fun stuff.

Thanks man! I've been looking at the eye-fi support site and those guys do not explain how to do this, good idea to shoot raw and only convert the images you want to transfer. Thanks!

You do not NEED a WiFi network for the card to work. The video was taken w/o any WiFi at all. The card creates it's own netword that the app in the phone knows. They "talk" to each other. You can teach the card your known networks so when you're at home it uses your named WiFi there instead of it's own so the phone can stay connected for other apps. The phone does NOT need to be in hotspot mode. It's all WiFi and all done by the card. Pretty neat.

Thanks for this video, it clarified a lot!

It does not use your cellular data plan (so you can ALSO upload images to say FB if you're out "in the wild"). As long as wifi is on and available in your airplane mode, then yes you'd be able to transfer images.

Excellent video. Most helpful ive found.

Clarifying question: since you mentioned the eyefi creates its own wifi, does it use your cellular data plan when transferring from camera to phone? Would the transfer work if your iphone was in airplane mode?

Thanks in advance!

Great review I just got one, tell me do u need to set the iPhone to hotspot? Does it need a wireless network to work? In the vid u seem to connect without, I have the same 4gb card but in other videos I've seen they say u need a wireles network for it to work can u help my confusion?

how big is your card and what size images are you using? When I filled the card in my OMD I lost all the images on it once. Wrote eye fi and they said it was a defective card. The new card has had zero issues. Doesn't get hot either but mine is setup to only transfer JPEGs which I only "make" using in camera conversion (not every shot) so maybe I'm using mine less? I do have to re-connect the phone every now and again...

Is that second part shot with the OMD? Looks like the auto focus is freaking out in video mode.

Does the Eye-Fi card affect the OM5 battery performance?

Can you try the Eye-Fi in your X100s please. I got one and it doesn't seem to work all that good in the X100s. I can only get 14 photos on the card and the rest disappear. The other thing is I am not sure what one is causing it but always losing connection with the card on the phone. I am returning mine as I lost 2 days worth of photos on the card. Plus it gets really warm to almost hot.
