Another informative and appreciated review... I never understood how one could buy at $20000 bike and associated expenses and expect to cut corners on gear. When I say cut they are often in pursuit of a cheap (monetarily and figuratively) outfit. I have always believed to to invest in high grade gear and be done with it. Injuries absolutley suck.
I recently got some KLIM Dakar gear for some 701 enduro riding here in the N. Ga. Mountains I am thoroughly impressed by the thought and build quality of the clothing. I have purchased cheap gear and it fails or lose interest in it.
Remember anything you get will be cheaper than a medical bill.

I also stand by Dainese as well.

Peace

I have this jacket/pants combo since 2017 - more than 30k miles. Traversed the Alps, and it's just a fantastic kit, can only recommend Klim. So much so, that this year I'm upgrading the kit with the latest 2023 version - thank god for better airflow though. This time, I'm going with a large size jacket instead of a medium (I'm 6.2 - 215lbs and the medium was a bit too snug for my taste on long roads). For pants, also sizing up - 34 instead of 32 for more comfort when riding - regular length is just perfect for my legs. Cheers.

I have the Latitude jacket and pant is geared towards touring, while I believe the Carlsbad is a bit more dual sport has over 20, 000 miles on it so far and no complaints....have not ridden in a lot of rain but when I have no leaks what so ever...and in hot weather with all the vents open it's worked complain about the price of Klim products, but I have no complaints and feel I've gotten my moneys for the video.

Great suit. I got the same suit in black while it was on clearance at Revzilla. I paid about $700 for pants and jacket. No complaints, excellent quality although I did have to size DOWN one size in pants (from 34 to 32). The Carlsbad is supposed to be more "dual sport"-oriented but I ride only touring style with no problems.
I find it to be PERFECT in everything under about 85 degrees F. (Then I switch to Klim Voyage Air). My FJR1300 is sometimes too good at blocking air to where I don't get enough flow through the vents.
Totally agree with the review! It blocks the wind superbly in cold weather. In rain, I can't even tell how much it's raining until I slow down.

Worth every penny. Great customer service too. Embrace the impossible. You either Do or Do not. There is no trying. Without the suffering there is no glory.

Yep, laminated goretex suits are the only serious way to go. Saved on buying cheaper jackets for many years. Dropped $1, 000 on a Darien Light last year. I'm never going back to liners.
Thanks for the review.

Great review. I started off buying cheap gear and learned you get what you pay for. I eventually had to upgrade everything which adds to the cost. Used on eBay is also and option for budget conscious riders, but I doubt the warranty carries over.

For hot day trips checkout the Klim voyage air pant. They offer great airflow up and down the leg without sacrificing protection. They are probably too bulky to pack as an option while touring though.

Very well done. Lots of real-world and useful information. I have a lot of Klim gear and am trying to decide on an all-weather jacket and pants. I have a $500+ Scorpion touring jacket and it is just too uncomfortable. My Klim Apex Air is amazing in hot weather, but problematic in rain. Your review have me what I needed. By handling the material, You showed how flexible it is. Something I am looking for. Thanks for another great video.

Good job, not cheap, but Klim is the best at what they do, cheers

Ya hit the points that really matter. If they really care about their safety and the ability to stay dry "while riding" Klim has got it goin on. Great Review and I hope they at least sent you a coupon or two!!

Nice review, I recommend zippering the jacket to the pants from previous experience. It is great gear. If you wreck while wearing it, Klim will replace it for the cost of shipping.

I drank the Klim Kool-aid about 7 years ago. Love all the Klim gear i have. My riding buddy's made fun of me on a trip when I pulled up in my badland pants. During the trip we got caught in a huge down pour and no one was dry but me. guess what they went and bought for our next trip.. Klim is pricey however you get what you pay for. I have a huge box of all different types and priced rain gear that failed sooner then it should have. Just bite the bullet you will not regret you bought Klim .

Really nice set up. I know I'll take some heat on this after reading your other comments but if it's warm I wear a Tee shirt and jeans. Not a long distance rider and I know accidents can happen anytime but it is what I've always worn. Along with a helmet and gloves.

I just got a pair of the Klim Carlsbad pants back in October. They were on closeout for $319. Not bad for Gortex. Sadly I waited too long as the jackets are sold out. After 40 years of riding, I can finally ditch the rain gear.

You forgot to mention the kidney belt which is one of the best features on the jacket and not so common in competitor jackets.
It takes away the weight of the jacket from your shoulders.
Atleast in Europe thats standard feature on Carlsbad.

Another thing:
Klim made a mistake with their 2020 Carlsbad: these old Carlsbad what you have cant be zipped to 2020 models.
However Klim offers free zipper adapter to users who has for example old Carlsbad jacket and new2020 model pants
You just need to request this adapter from dealer/klim when you buy your stuff.

Thanks, great review. Only comment, for future watchers. The pant zipper from pant version you got does not mach the Carlsbad jacket of next gen. 2020.

I own a Klim Gore-Tex Pro. Biggest negative, it is the coldest jacket i have ever owned. Going to Aerostich for my Alaska trip. If you live in the mid states i would highly recommend klim. If you live in the northen climates consider Aerostich.

I have never owned KLIM, but did own a Aerostich suit back in the 90's and it was also expensive, but very well made as well. 👍😀
