If there's anything that I've learned new about AI, it's because of Varun. If there's anything new I will do with AI. It will be because of Sundar. So enjoyable to watch

Hey Varun! Congratulations on the great interview! I'm not sure if you remember me, but we used to play Dota against each other back in Manipal. Seeing you grow so much makes me feel proud! Kudos on the good work!

Summary

Pichai's advice for Indian engineers to keep up with the AI race is to focus on understanding technology in a deeper way rather than just focusing on competitive exams. He emphasizes the importance of transitioning and building applications that make sense for India or the world, leveraging India's base of developers and engineering talent. Pichai also mentions that programming languages may change, but understanding the technology stack in a deeper way is crucial for success in the evolving field of AI.

Pichai views the rise of "wrapper startups" as not inherently bad, as long as they are not shallow wrappers. He emphasizes the importance of thinking about where the models are heading and ensuring that the startup adds value beyond what the models themselves can do. Pichai suggests that focusing on chaining multiple models together, adding value on top of the models, and considering the forward curve of the models are essential aspects for these startups to succeed in the AI field.

Pichai's perspective on the trade-offs between being bold and responsible when developing AI technologies is that there is a balance to be found. He mentions that with fast-developing yet still immature technology, it is important to ride the curve by pushing boundaries while also being responsible. Pichai acknowledges the trade-off and the need to find the optimal point where boldness meets responsibility. He highlights the importance of user excitement and feedback guiding the development process, ultimately leading to a confident and bold approach in moving forward with AI technologies.

The first question you asked on AI, I think it was more on the lines of building the models itself in India and launching competitors for Google, and not using the APIs of big companies to build something. I was eager to hear about Sundar's take on it, but he either knowingly or unknowingly answered it in a different way.

learned that even when u use something already existing, put so much effort into it that it can't be replaced by newer version of existing thing

Wow 🤩 this interview was sooo much better than all those journalists who keep asking are u scared of search being competed! U shared what he’s good at and he in turn shared on perspectives regarding wrappers and FAANG interviews in both cases don’t be something superficial and riding the way but to go deeper and extract meaningful value. Great going & so proud that Bangalore hudga had d day wid his idol or fan boy moment 😇

The low numbers of views in your channel is a testament to why India will never lead the race in tech, business or anything productive. Our Indian brothers and sisters would rather watch and follow cringe channels like UK 07 or Elvish Yadav than to learn and grow from your channel. If it was up to me I would ban purposeless vlogging in India to save Indians from destroying whatever little is left up there on those shoulders. Keep doing the good work bro, more power to you. 🔥💪

Piece from 4:50 called 'Wrapper Startups' is insightful for those who are building on top of models... if its shallow value addition, the next version of model may just have it..
