As teachers, we're used to sharing content objectives that identify what our students are learning. While this is great teaching practice, we must also be mindful of how we're teaching not only the lesson content, but the language that accompanies it. This type of purposeful planning that incorporates language development is beneficial for all students, but especially for our English learners.

In this month's tip, we observe a fourth grade teacher doing a math unit on fractions, simultaneously laying out both the content and language objectives at the start of the lesson. Watch and consider how you might incorporate this simple but effective strategy into your teaching!
