Within this frame, the international encounter Generation Europe – MAKE USE took place in Larissa, Greece, from June 21st to July 1st, 2019, inside the city’s industrial monument “Mill of Pappas”. A natural continue of NO WASTE! encounter in Florence (Nov-Dec 2018) but with an emphasis on the “use”, both of tangible and intangible things (objects, ideas, skills, attitudes, stories, places) in line with the civic competence development through performing arts and media. As part of a generation privileged with education, technology, information, and travel opportunities but on the other hand less socially active, we decide to get our lives in our hands and make use of everything that can bring us together in order to create a better life for everyone.
The encounter ended up in 7 performances/presentations/artistic products (theatre, dance theatre, video art, installations, performances) developed the participants and presented in 2 ocassions; on June 30th, via online streaming to the Nostos festival and through the project “Seven to the Seventh” to 8 cities around the world: Beirut (Lebanon), Pullheim (Germany), Lausanne (Switzerland), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Chennai (India), Tokyo (Japan), Miami (USA), and San Francisco (USA); and on July 1st, as an open modular performance inside and outside the Mill of Pappas.
Generation Europe is coordinated by the German association IBB Internationales Bildungs- und Begegnungswerk in Dortmund with the support of the Federal State of North Rhine- Westphalia, the Federal Ministry for family, elderly, women and youth, the Stiftung Mercator, and the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. For the international trilateral partnership, Synergy of Music Theatre (SMouTh ) co-operates with Centro di Creazione e Cultura (CCC ) and ROOTS & ROUTES Cologne e. V. (RRCGN) .The international MAKE USE encounter was supported by the Municipality of Larissa.
