My daughter did competitive cheer for 1 year . She had a great time but the $$$$ is insane. You could probably attend an ivy league university at what I spent . It just got to be too much. It was like owing money to the mafia. I started dropping her off at the curb cause every time I’d walk her in I was immediately ushered to the cashier . That bow 👒 she is wearing starts at $50. Everything down to the makeup 💄 has to be purchased through the team. In the Southeast the final tournament is at Disney/Espn sports center for 4 days +. You spend all the $ for airfare hotel food etc and then they schedule rehearsals all throughout the day making it impossible to actually enjoy the park. Our coach actually said she’d prefer if we didn’t visit any attractions till we were finished with competition. Why in the world would you book a competition at the biggest theme park in the world and convince your child not to enjoy it . By the last day my daughter was in tears riding the shuttle bus from park to competition. This is not a whiny child or prone to cry in public . She didn’t even want to compete but I was able to convince her it was the right thing to do but even now I question if it was. I haven’t read the other comments so I’m curious if I’m the only person to mention the cost . There were siblings on teams together and I can’t imagine shelling out the dough for 2&3 at a time.
The next year she started middle school and joined the schools cheer team though not as exciting it was much more economical . The only way I could justify competitive cheer is either you are rich or your child is a serious contender. One that is considering college cheer teams or professional cheer for AFL or NBA. Those cheerleaders compete for scholarships but the ones who get them are few and far between. All the recipients I knew where males who just are going to have the advantage just by numbers. If your child is interested get with another parent that can break the costs down for you . The monthly class fee quoted is actually the cheapest expense. It’s all the outfits and competitions that costs. Are you really winning a competition you paid hundreds of dollars to win ? 🏆
These little girls look beautiful and I’m sure this is one of the highlights of their lives . Just thank mom and dad or whoever the benefactor is .
