A couple of points of clarification for those of you discovering this anime:
- This is originally based on an ONA which was collaboration with the car company Subaru (which is the Japanese word for the Pleiades, their emblem, and explains the title and character). However, they don't seem to have the same attachment to the TV series, but their name remains on the packaging. The ONA is available on YouTube.
- This show is made by Gainax, however it's not exactly made by the same people as Neon Genesis Evangelion, as most of the staff from that time has left the company (including NGE's director Anno, who took the rights with him to his new studio Khara to make the movies). It would be more accurate to say that this is from the same people that made Gurren Lagann, considering the staff. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto was involved with design, though!
- Samfree, the composer for this OP, passed away in 2015.


A fun fact: Natsumi Takamori, who plays Subaru, was the voice for young Jotaro Kujo during the Alessi/Set fight in JoJo: Stardust Crusaders.
