Michael Carvajal, the director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, announced his resignation from his post after a reporting by the Associated Press found abuse, misconduct and corruption.

More than 100 federal prison workers have been arrested or convicted for crimes since 2019, including a warden being charged with sexually abusing an incarcerated person and another charged with murder.

The report found that, “One-fifth of the BOP cases tracked... involved crimes of a sexual nature, second only to cases involving smuggled contraband.”

Joe Neff, investigative reporter for The Marshall Project, joins Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to discuss the report and its findings.

All this and more on “Making the Case.”

10:00 "Listen, if I were were a cook or a teacher or a nurse within the prison system and I'm asked to guard inmates, incarcerated folks, because there's a shortage, absolutely I'd quit!"
Guess you wouldn't have student loans stacked up for your 2-year degree you got to get this job. Guess you don't mind that if you do resign, you won't be eligible for unemployment insurance. Guess you already have so many good references you don't need a good reference form your most recent employer tyo get another job. Guess you liked working in a prison so much that you already turned down all the good jobs on the outside for cooks, for nurses, for teachers. Guess the pay in the prison is so good that you have already saved enough to pay months of rent and other expenses for your family while you look for your next fun job.
Where the heck does this newslady come from? Sweden?
