Okay, that beats me and my buddies snaging mullet with a weighted treblehook for 2 or 3$ and we lived good. I'm 58 now. My buddy stole $50 bucks from his mom's purse. 6 of us eight pizza bowled 3 games each, video games and he still had like $32 left.

I sometimes wish my kid could do this. Walk to the store, go to the park by himself.
When he grows up I want him to be independent, the kind of man that can walk with confidence in any city, no matter how much cash he had in his pocket.

My dad would force me as a teenager to go with him to his friend's shops and businesses, having me work as a grunt cleaning and getting coffee and lunch getting paid for it... The old school vibes were immaculate ❤😂

My dad used to post up at the number hole back in the 70's. It would be a sad day for you if you ever tried to rob one.

As a kid growing up in any large city that's built for walking. You will have so many opportunities to get into trouble and make money. If you live in NY and have a kid, please, check their bookbags regularly

'Do I have an Uncle Julio?' – 'Yeah, lemme call him. Here, talk to him!'

As rad as this anecdote is, imagining myself as a teenager in this situation made me so upset for moment, the distress was nearly palpable. My eldest brother would pull this sort of shit on me while I was rooming at his during middle/high school, and I learnt quickly to either avoid engaging with him or to undertake the task with extreme caution lest he ensnare me in dreaded dialogue with his new wife's family. My parents were never the sort to drag me into unnecessary discussions involving a foreign third party, and I thank the Lord for this blessing. To this day, my parents freely share regular stories of their lives with me, and I still feel dread when I think of seeing my brother's in-laws (regardless of the fact I love my brother and have no ill wishes for the family, just a negative social association).
