I'm 16 and just finished my last credit math class and to be completely honest all you should teach is basic math because the rest of it is just helping your brain move a little faster what's the point of using math to help your brain move faster but reading and poetry and these types of puzzles like Sudoku word search crossword it helps the same way that math does so what is the point of teaching anything but basic math

My 8yr old asked me to help with his maths. I had no clue what he was trying tell me so I taught him how I was taught at school and that was wrong. It's a whole different, more difficult way to do maths now, makes no sense 😕

The biggest problem with education is all the standardized testing. I couldn't relate geometry to everyday life but algebra was different. I never ever used algebra in everyday life until I got to college for college math lol my algebra teacher lied his butt off.

I remember being where you are now. My son quickly realized I was gonna be kinda useless going forward. He was kind about it.

You only know ONE WAY?? That is pitivul!!
Common Core REQUIRES the 'normal' methods but alternatives avoid 'one size fits all' with more than ONE way with a focus on understanding! That is how high performing nations AND also how higher math operates.
In 1980s, Reagan found the "OLD" way produced generations of math illiterates easily stressed by simple multistep problems!!
