↭ Is the UK benefitting from Brexit? Has the economy managed to adjust or is it still struggling? What could a new government do differently with the EU? I spoke to Peter Foster, Public Policy Editor at the Financial Times (FT) about his new book, and what he sees as the main challenges in Britain, but also, potential solutions.

Over the talk, we discussed the legacy of the Brexit, the misconceptions about what was promised, and at the end of the talk, the alarming, yet little known or understood systemic issues weakening the UK - details that shocked me and why you must stay tuned till the end!

In the EU we don't care about Brexit enymore, the UK always was a pain in the ass as a member with their exeptionalism, when the UK wants to rejoin they have to accept the EU rules.

Consider advising a company to set up via brexit regulations prior to 2015. "You will be trading with countries thousands of miles away from the UK which will include subsidising those countries imports to the UK & separating yourself from the largest & nearest trading block (the EU) by inserting your own rules which previously were non-existent." You'd be laughed at & your career in business consultancy would be short. The brexit paradox is that any govt capable of delivering brexit wouldn't.

Inflation in Belgium September 2.39%.
October 2023 0.36%.
In Belgium there is a mandatory system called "indexation" that automatically links wages, pensions, and other social benefits to the cost of living. It is designed to protect people's purchasing power from inflation. Indexation is a mandatory system in Belgium, and it applies to all workers, regardless of their sector or employment type. It also applies to pensioners and other recipients of social benefits.
This means that raising wages does not affect inflation. That is what the Tories want you to think.

I pity anyone under 25 who had no say in this car crash. Hopefully the uk will learn from this.
There are no benefits

Brexit is not like an exploding tyre, it is like a slow puncture.

I have a good friend in Germany who has a business selling more luxurious/good products like excellent tea, very good chocolate, etc.
She used to get tea from British tea makers because of the excellent quality. She stopped that. Formalities. Time. It now takes five times as long for the goods to arrive. The tea manufacturer in the UK had to raise prices because of the customs bureaucracy. For them, it is now like sending it to the US.
And the delivery services in Germany demand a fee for customs processing.

She stopped sourcing tea from the UK. She is sad about it but said it is not worth it for her as a small business.

Britain is slogging through the mud while the rest of the world is walking on solid ground, I don't see how you can expect growth and prosperity if you can't keep up with the rest of the world. All self inflicted, peace

I am a staunch EU supporter, but I am not blind. I could spend hours criticizing the EU. But, surely, Britons of all people should recall Churchill’s quote that “Democracy is the worst system except for all others” and apply it to EU membership.

Question about the CPPT: Isn't the EU doing trade with South East Asia? So if the UK was a member of the EU wouldn't it harvest the same benefit as being a member of the CPPT (in addition to the other benefits from being a member of the EU)?

UK first needs to become a proper democracy not in service of the lords, bankers and aristocracy 😂

All anyone (in Britain) has to do, to better understand how the EU works, how to work the EU, AND see a close neighbouring EU country doing very well, is to look ...not as too many Brits habitually do, 'across the channel' but to look west...to Ireland.

The thing about Brexit is that a lot of Brexiteers were perfectly fine with getting poorer, because to them, Brexit was all about the culture war.

If the UK want sovereignty why not come out of NATO?

There is a new geopolitical world order engineered by USA and in tow EU as junior partner while China as opposite counterpart, while UK and Russia are on the declining path as relevance concerns.
UK has not the weight to be worldwide relevant, while USA and EU will become more and more interwoven. Numbers matter.

Anyone that voted leave in 2016 was naive, gullible and easily fooled. Anybody that still supports it today is just plain thick. 😂
