The heaviest rainfall in 75 years struck the United Arab Emirates this week. The city of Al Ain which borders the UAE and Oman recorded 10 inches of rainfall in less than 24 hours, and a year and half worth of precipitation fell at Dubai’s international airport. The rare torrential storm flooded streets and airport runways and trapped people in buildings. At least 18 people were killed in a flash flood in Oman, and a 70-year-old man in the UAE died after being swept away in his car. Man-made climate change and “cloud seeding” practices may have contributed to the record rainfall.
