Abandoned Rastrick independent school

Rastrick Independence school At the time of its closure the school could accommodate up to 482 pupils, but only had approximately 70 pupils enrolled the school shut its doors in sept 2019

The independent school purchased the property in 1991. Prior to this it was the combined Rastrick High School which was located there on Ogden Rd and on Field Top Rd. Prior to this in about 1985 it was Rastrick Grammar School before it merged in 1985 with Reinswood Secondory school to form Rastrick High School.

There has certainly been a school on and around the site of the church (around the corner) since around 1550 when Robert Ramsden became the school master.
It's believed schooling happened there or in the vicinity since around 1400. Theres proof of a vicar called John Piper been there and around this time it was normal for vicars to teach the youths of the area although it doesn't necessarily mean that was in a building.
The school was always closely linked to the history of St Matthews Church

There was a geezer called John Hanson that left a will in about 1620 ish that left an annual payment of 20 shillings for teaching and building maintenance. The Hanson family were still kicking around and involved in the school reet up to the 1900s
That building has some serious history and I fear what will become of the site now. No doubt involving private development.
