Why Coliseum CAN'T COMPETE with Howard Terminal

This is an explanation of why Howard Terminal is the only logical opportunity for the Oakland A's to compete among the Bay Area's casual baseball fans, as opposed to the Coliseum site, and in relation to Oracle Park: home of the San Francisco Giants.

Good concept to consider. Appreciate your insight and forward thinking....My gripe is that I despise lack of parking at these new venues. Makes it hard to visit from out of town.

Thanks Brodie for keeping it real. I've already made my choice - if the A's leave, then I leave baseball. I will never become a Giants fan nor will I follow the A's in LV. But most fans are not like me. The go for the fan experience and for this, we need Howard Terminal.

Thanks for the tidbits, it really is interesting to consider that most very successful ballparks in the Majors in terms of ticket sales and fan experience all share common aspects: easy access to primary transit hubs, local amenities and entertainment surrounding the stadium, and generally a proximity to the downtown core of the city and/or a dense, vibrant neighborhood of said city (take Wrigley as the prime example of this)

I'm a big baseball fan living in Atlanta, but I grew up a Big Red Machine fan. I'm not sure why I'm so interested in the plight of the A's...but I am.

What the A's WANT to do at Howard Terminal sounds very similar to what the Braves have done with their Battery development. Build a "neighborhood" feel around the ballpark. Get the fans to come early and stay late, especially on the weekends. Lots of restaurants, bars, and shops along with plenty of activities going on outside the stadium on game day. It's a much fuller experience than driving to the parking lot, going straight to the stadium, and then going straight back to the car after the game.

It's very similar to what Fenway and Wrigley have, but a more planned out setting.

And, yes, I've been to a game at the Coliseum about 5+ years ago. It's a very bland experience. The whole setting just feels like everybody stopped caring 20 years ago. There are way too many issues with that venue to think that it can be saved.

I will disagree with Brodie on one thing: They could certainly rebuild on the Coliseum site. However, they would need to tear down the arena and the Coliseum and start over from scratch. Then they could build up around the new stadium. Any thoughts of saving either venue should instantly kill that idea, though.

seems this might be an easier goal to attain if the A's kept their talented players. I understand your point. The team acts as if they don't want to stay. Seems we need Haas family 2.0 asap.

Hey Brodie: I understand your comments and will side with the A’s if they want to build at Howard Terminal; however, the coliseum has great access. You can scape both buildings build a modern stadium with housing, life style center with restaurants, and still be cheaper then what Howard Terminal will cost. How do you feel about Fisher selling the team and new ownership consider building a new stadium on the coliseum site. I have this on good authority that there are local buyers willing to purchase the A’s and consider the coliseum site. Fisher at this time is not willing to sell.

I personally like the coliseum, but I can see why it's unattractive to many people. It's not in a nice place, also not near downtown like Oracle park. There's nothing really to do nearby, therefore you'd have to drive across town to do something afterward, even to eat. Also, there's not a nice view in the coliseum's back drop. Before mount Davis, my father told me that the coliseum was considered by many one of the most beautiful ballparks. I heard this from others as well.

So true. I go to A's games but when friends come from out of town, I tell them to go to a Giants game for the experience. A's tickets are an awesome deal for a great game but Oracle Park has all the bells and whistles and the surrounding area is good too. I'd never hang out around the Coliseum after a game.

It’s crazy, cause as a kid being an A’s/Giants fan candlestick was the dump and the coli was the gem. Now it’s the opposite. As long as they stay

As long as the guys with the drums and horns don't get priced out, I'm all for it.

I very hope for the a's n surrounding oakland fanbase for the team that this new park draws em in. I know u hear this will help our team out to keep people but its very likely this team will not draw n perform

I agree without even watching the video.

If you’re trying to keep this team in Oakland, you’re gonna have to give something to consider, even though they are the LAST people to deserve it.

It’s not gonna happen in East Oakland. That’s just reality.

It's a nice idea, but the A's just had an offseason where they spent $0. This is not an organization that looks to upgrade anything. If the second option, building on the site of the old park, is feasible... take it. We've been living with new A's ballpark talk for nearly 20 years and nothing has come close to happening. A mediocre new park is better than the rotting corpse of a multi purpose stadium, ask Cincinnati.

It's a sad truth about sports in general - it's all just a business, and the business is geared toward the casual fan.

That said, baseball is dying, and no public money should be spent on any baseball stadium. The A's should have been out of the Coliseum 20 years ago.

Will Howard be a better ballpark cause it’s newer ? Not necessarily, the way they built pac bell is amazing. The white Sox built a new park and wriggly is still better. They need to build the stadium right, it’s not the technology. Pac bell just fits in.

Hey BB what happens to you if the A's leave town? I mean enough is enough already 😂

Can you say Final Four? ANY stadium with a retractable roof can host a Final Four for college hoops.

Brodi I call bull shit. Most generation X follow players not teams. Big stars sell tickets not bars and restaurants. Ownership wants Howard Terminal to sell more than tickets. A's need to learn to be better advertisers to the public. Most fans didn't even have any idea when they had the all access pass
