"Students, we need this program not on the store, let's just install a new operating system, no big deal"

"We have taken everything that teachers need and millions of people love about Windows 10"
Are you sure? Locking it down to the Windows Store isn't that loved or needed...

I love how in the Dial demo, he used Spotify instead of Microsoft's own Groove. Groove sucks so much even Microsoft doesn't use it.

i must say the hardware on the surface looks stunning, maybe even more than the macbook pro which was already hard to beat in my opinion. only thing I feel they weren't being serious enough about for me: they go on and compare the thinness of the surface pro to the one of the macbook pro, which clearly isn't a device in that price range. they should've compared it to the regular macbook, which is waaay thinner. but still, props to the design team, that thing looks amazing

Why are they comparing this laptop to the MacBook Air? That thing is extremely outdated

UWP apps.... look I've been a developer for 12 years, UWP can't hold a candle to .NET WinForms or WebForms controls.
I like the idea but until it has some serious maturity and development its not going to be adopted anytime soon and thus the App store will not show growth at the same rate as other vendors like Apple or Google.

I get why they are marketing this at schools, its to force large companies to start moving into the UWP space to support those markets.
Its awesome Microsoft is trying so hard and i encourage it, making a Universal code language to run on any device is a monumental challenge but for me there are too many compromises in the platform as it stands now- in a couple of years i'll look back into development for it.

A $1K laptop with 4gb of ram is an almost Apple level of stupid. Also the lack of USB-C is insane.

Something interesting I noticed about this event is that they played music through Spotify instead of their own Microsoft Groove Music. Perhaps an indication that Groove is on its way out?

This is such a strange product... Maybe they know something I don't know lol but I needed a working computer when I was a student. I did not need a restricted one. What kind of student is this for? Are students now less capable than before?

The part where you knew Microsoft has failed is when he was comparing this laptop with a Macbook Air instead of the new Macbook at 6:09

After being burned by purchasing Windows Surface RT on launch for full price and then having support pulled? No thanks - never buying a surface product again.

And then some kid will go home, make a bootable flash drive and install Linux so he can do sketchy crap in class with no one knowing
