I am still at the praise. BUT, I can hear the "unfortunately" coming from a mile away

Not realistic, he actually told the candidate that they got rejected instead of just completely ghosting the candidate after the final interview

I went through this in august. Quite literally a 7 interview, 2.5 month process. Made it to the "final round" and then they never told me why they chose someone else over me. By that time I was over it Nd just doing it to not burn a bridge for the future. So happy with my current job. They didnt talk for months about company culture and personality tests and multiple assignments.

Free labor for them, prolonged job search for the applicants.

Yup. I've been conned into doing free work twice in my career. Unfortunately I was in a position both times where I knew what was going on, but needed to take every chance I could get. And that's what they're hoping for.

If they ask you to do a project as part of the interview, that's the end of the interview. Made this mistake once and I'll never accept free work as being part of an interview again

"nobody wants to work" meanwhile nobody wants to hire. Often they'll have good candidates and just leave the position open because they arent a perfect fit.

leading people on like this should be illegal. especially if they dont already have a job. they got no income and have to wait way too long to get an answer

You should be compensated for that nonsense

Reminds me of my three interviews for Wells Fargo. First two went very well, and before the third one, I developed very bad flu symptoms. I called them and let them know and they said it was up to me if I still wanted to come in for the third interview (with a strong implication that if I didn't come in, then say goodbye to the job). I went in, was totally out of it because of the sickness, and at one point in my confusion I said something about how it was hard to think with the "head cold" which wasn't what I had, but that's just what came out because I felt like death, and the look the manager gave me in that moment told me everything I needed to know. They thought I was "lying" about my sickness (and not just extremely sick and struggling to function) and didn't even contact me afterward to let me know I didn't get the job.

I recently started curiously looking around. Did an interview, went great, went to second interview where I found out it was 10 of us and we had to submit a new procedure assignment for a category they selected. I said "Thank you for this opportunity but I'll have decline on account of I do not provide free labour" I've had 3 calls asking me to submit one as they really want me. 😅

I'm surprised the interviewee even got an explanation, rather than being ghosted.

I fell for a job scam and on my last day the guy that ran the office said that performance was bad, people were late too much and there's no excuse for that, ect... So he told everyone to close their eyes because he was firing %10 of the office. He said our supervisor would tap on shoulders and we'd go home no questions asked. We all closed our eyes and a couple minutes later we open them and he says, "You may have noticed no one is leaving. No one is getting fired today. But if you were nervous you need to do better. Next time we do this people will be fired." There was a lot of other terrible stuff going on too but that day I quit.

Bonus they had "networking" nights every week at clubs and they told me to go if I cared about my job. When I told them I was 19 they told me to get a fake ID. I declined and they said I didn't care about my job.
