While some people have difficulty working in a noisy environment, others feel the opposite. Once you have acquired the ability to concentrate in ambient noise, you may find it surprisingly difficult to work from a quiet home. I have been working from home since 2020 and could never quite put to words what core thing I was missing from the office. I've been burnt out and so lonely, so unable to focus on my job that I've nearly lost it several times.

I am not what I would call a typical extrovert, I dislike being interrupted when I'm doing something and often would put on headphones with music when the noise level got too loud and intrusive. However, I do my best work when actively tuning out these excess noises because the level of stimulation I need to be my most productive is much higher than a lot of people.

Hearing people in my immediate team talking to one another sometimes is still missing but I will take what good I can to get back on track. Google couldn't figure out what I was trying to search for, but you did and I, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I need this now more than ever. Ironically I'm in between jobs and am applying for teleworker positions. For some reason, I am able to focus more with these office sounds in the background when doing research etc online. It reminds of the good old days when I had an office job to go to.
